AP EUROPEAN HISTORY CLASSROOM POLICIES & PROCEDURES

MS. GENTRY 2015-2016

I.GENERAL CLASSROOM POLICIES:

A. HANDBOOK: all state, county, & school policies will be adhered to & enforced. (DRESS CODE,

ETC.)

B. ATTENDANCE: STUDENT HANDBOOK (County policy) Make every effort to be in class each day (on

time) as excessive absences will impede your performance & mastery of this class.

* 10 excused or unexcused absences student must have a passing grade and pass a comprehensive

exam to receive credit for the course.

* 15 excused/unexcused > no make-up work shall be allowed. To obtain credit for the course student must have a passing grade at the end of the semester and pass a comprehensive exam.

C. TARDY POLICY: (School handbook)

* Tardy- Student is not physically in the classroom when the tardy bell rings…must be excused by an administrator.

* Students are required to sign the classroom sign-in/out log to class when tardy to class.

* 6TH cumulative tardy…students serve immediate In-school Suspension; class work may not be made up.

* Tardy 10-14…Students serve immediate In-School Suspension; class work may not be made up. Students referred to after school detention.

* Tardy 15 and up…Students serve immediate In-School suspension; class work may not be made up.

Students referred to an administrator who will assign Saturday detention.

D. PASSES: (SCHOOL POLICY)

* Students are to remain in the classroom except for emergency situations. Come prepared with all

necessary materials…students will not be excused to retrieve forgotten materials.

* No hall passes are permitted during first ten (10) minutes of a class.

* Students must sign in/out if they arrive late or leave a classroom during a class period.

* Students will use their planner/assignment book as their pass.

E. HOUSEKEEPING: Please do your part to help keep the room neat & clean.

* Food, beverages, gum, etc. are not allowed in class unless prior approval has been obtained from the teacher. Please dispose of unwanted items in the proper receptacle.

F. CELL PHONES/WIRELESS: Are not to be visible/in use during academic instruction time, any

violations will result in the confiscation of the device. Confiscated items may be retrieved from an

administrator.

II.CLASS CONDUCT:

A. Please make every effort to be polite & respectful to your peers & faculty members.

B. Please wait to be recognized before speaking, refrain from speaking when others have the floor.

C. Insubordination & disruptive behavior will not be tolerated…I am here to teach & you are here to

learn. If there is a problem , see me before or after class.

III.ACADEMICS/GRADES:

A. ASSIGNMENTS: CHECK EDMODO & BOARD FRQUENTLY FOR POSTED ASSIGNMENTS

* Working on assignments for other classes is not permitted (& will be confiscated) unless all work

for this class has been completed or unless you have prior permission.

* Come to class prepared with all necessary assignments/materials (you will not be allowed to

return to your locker for forgotten materials... school policy)

* Be alert & ready to participate, & try to maintain a positive attitude.

* Assignments will be posted and are due on the designated day. Late work will not be accepted. If

you are on school grounds the day an assignment is due it must be passed in that day.

* Are to be neat & legible with name, date, class, class period & assignment clearly marked in the

upper right hand corner.

* Reading assignments, class-work, note taking, homework, discussion, current events, map work,

essays, & review are all vital aspects of this course & your mastery of this subject

* BOOKS ARE TO BE COVERED (REPLACEMENT COST $105)

B. GRADES: All work is based upon 100 points unless notified otherwise. For mastery of this course, it is

vital that the student keep up with the reading assignments and complete the class and homework

assignments in a timely manner.

* Will be determined on the basis of homework, quiz & test scores, essays, class participation

discussion..

* Homework & Quiz Scores = 1/3 of grade

* Test Scores = 2/3 of grade

* You can expect a “pop” quiz every few days.

* Tests: approx. 3-4 each nine weeks, may cover 2-3 chapters.

* Objective Tests: Will be approximately 40-50 multiple choice questions of varying degrees

of difficulty. May include review questions from past material. Will generally be returned and

reviewed in class within 48 hours.

* Essay Tests: Will be given periodically and will generally be returned and reviewed within 7-10

days.

* EXTRA CREDIT: MANY OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE. STUDENTS MAY EARN UP TO 4 EXTRA POINTS PER 9

WEEKS. ALL EXTRA CREDIT IS DUE THE FRIDAY BEFORE THE END OF THE MARKING PERIOD

IV. MAKE-UP PROCEDURES:

  1. It is the students responsibility to obtain any assignments missed while absent...see me before or after

school/class. Check Edmodo.

B.Tests, etc. may be made up Mondays or Wednesdays after school. This is your responsibility, keep your parents/employees informed & make the necessary arrangements. Failure to meet these requirements will result in a grade of “0:.

C. Work must be made up within 5 days of being absent, you must provide the proper paper-work from

attendance to do so. Additional time for make-up work may be granted if the individual situation

warrants it. If a student has been given a due date for an assignment prior to their absence, the

assignment must be turned in on the 1st day the student returns.

D. If a student misses a scheduled test during a one-day absence, the student may be required to make-up

the test on the day of the return.
