SUBJECT:Recognition of Texas Music Educators Association All-State Music Students

RECOMMENDATION

That the Board of Trustees approve the recognition of these music students and their music teachers.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The AISD Fine Arts Department proudly announces that 28 high school music students were selected for membership in the 2002-2003 Texas Music Educators Association All-State Band, Choir, and Orchestra.

Beginning in September with district auditions and continuing through region, pre-area, and area competitions, 28 Austin Independent School District high school music students attained the highest possible level of individual musical achievement. These 28 students rank among the top 1% of all high school age musicians in the world.

After three days of intensive rehearsals in San Antonio, the All-State organizations performed outstanding concerts on Saturday, February 15, 2003, at Lila Cockrell Hall in the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center.

(Recognition of 2002-2003 TMEA All-State

Band, Choir, and Orchestra Students)

It is my privilege to recognize these music students, their music teachers, and their principals. These students’ musical talents represented the Austin Independent School District in the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Band, Choir, and Orchestra at the TMEA Convention in February. They each performed in outstanding concerts held in San Antonio on February 15, 2003.

The Board of Trustees of the Austin Independent School District recognizes the honor of having our gifted musicians selected for such very exclusive concerts and congratulates these students and their music teachers for all their hard work and high achievement.
