Book Fair

The Travelling Book Fair will be in school from Monday 28th October to Thursday 31st October 2013. A leaflet with additional information was sent home at the beginning of this week. Your child/ren will have the opportunity to visit the book fair, with their class, during the school day. Books can be purchased during the class visits and the fair will be open for parents on Wednesday and Thursday after school between 3 and 4pm.

Poppy Scotland Appeal

Primary 7 pupils will be selling poppies in school from Monday 28th October 2013. If your child would like a poppy, please send a donation into school. All monies raised from the sale of poppies will go to the Royal British Legion Poppy Scotland Appeal 2013.

Following the Remembrance Assembly, P7 are holding a cake/bake sale with coffee/teas. The cakes will also be sold to pupils at break-time. Monies raised will go directly to the Lady Haig Poppy Factory in Edinburgh. Please give generously to these worthwhile causes.

Halloween Parties

Information has been e-mailed to parents and carers about our forthcoming parties on Thursday 31st October 2013.

Details as follows –

9.15am – 10.30amSetting up/decorating the hall

10.45 – 11.45amP1 and P2 party

1.30pm – 2.30pmP3 and P4 party

3.15pm – 4.30pmP5, P6 and P7 disco

4.30pm onwardsClearing up!

Costumes can be brought to school to change into.

The Parent Council do require help for these parties/disco to enable them to go ahead. If you are able to give some time, please contact Lori Thomson on 07950 032889 or

There will be a Fairtrade tuckshop at the disco for children to purchase snacks from.

Change of lunch menus

Reminder on Thursday 31st October 2013 there will be a Halloween themed lunch. The choice of meal will be:

  • Wiggly Worm (chicken noodle) soup with sandwich
  • Beefburger or veggie burger in a roll with Dracula’s blood (tomato sauce)
  • Mallow cake

On Friday 29th November, lunches will be served as part of the Mary’s Meals Project ( the choice of meal that day will be:

  • Scotch Broth
  • Fish and Chips or Steak Pie
  • Shortbread

Any donations for Mary’s Meals will be appreciated,please bring along on the day of the lunch.

Ordering of School Lunches

In an effort to reduce waste, when you order the soup option for school lunches, please can you state the variety of sandwich your child would like. The options available are (H) ham, (C) cheese, (T) tuna or (E) egg. Please mark the appropriate letter in the soup option box.

Error on School Calendar

The school calendar which was sent home to parents recently had an error on it. The children will be off on Friday 7th February through to Tuesday 11th February and not Thursday 6th February as previously intimated.

HolyTrinityChurch (High Cross Avenue) are holding a "messy church" afternoon - stories, songs and craft for children 6-11, 3.30pm-6pm on Monday 28th. The theme this Month is "Spooks and Saints" Meal for children and parents included - please contact Philip Blackledge if you are coming for catering numbers.

Pampered Chef Fundraiser for Breast Cancer

Come along to a fun night out, with the chance tobuy some super Pampered Chef goodies and help us whip breast cancer!

When: Friday 25th October, 7.30pm

Where: Darnick Village Hall

Cost: Tickets £3.00 available from: Butterfly, High St.Melrose (or at the venue on the night) inc. 1 glass of pink fizz / pink lemonade

A Pink Raffle will also be drawn on night (Pink donations welcome)
