Notes:MOTION(Toni, Tina) to approve the minutes from the April meeting. VOTE: All in favor.
2 / Item: / Staff Appreciation Week / Colleen
Notes:There are still openings to help out in the classrooms tomorrow – Colleen and Mary Jo are working on finding last-minute helpers. Betty Egan has done an outstanding job of organizing the week and it’s off to a great start!
3 / Item: / Treasurer’s Report / Toni
Notes:Toni offered to answer questions on the current report. Final numbers for the Spelling Bee numbers will be added ASAP.
4 / Item: / Teacher Requests / Cindy
Notes:Bill Mellekas (2nd Grade) submitted two requests:
-$100 for offsetting printing costs of wildflower books, a creative writing project. MOTION to approve (Gordie, Colleen) VOTE: all in favor.
-Up to $125 for a multi-generational art project and show, a collaboration with the Seniors the students have been working with all year. MOTION to approve (Colleen, Mandy) VOTE: all in favor.

Notes:The present slate of officers has been nominated to retain their positions for the 2013-14 school year: Cindy Burnell, President; Tiffany Ogburn-Beers, Vice President; Toni Butterfield Treasurer; Lynn Kenerson, Secretary. A vote will be held at the June meeting.
6 / Item: / Bylaws / Quorum / Lynn
Notes:Our average LPTO meeting attendance is 9 members, and according to our current bylaws that is the minimum needed to conduct business. The bylaws need to be amended to account for the fact that most meetings have fewer than 9 people. The board will offer alternative language at the June meeting to be discussed and approved at that time.
Next Steps: / Consider ways to encourage more people to come to meetings – food? Educational components?
7 / Item: / Spring Planting Team / Gordie
Notes:Volunteers will be asked to help with spring planting at a date TBD. Toni will get the word out once the date is set. Garden Crew will be added to the Volunteer sign-up sheet in the fall.
8 / Item: / Field Trips / Cindy
Notes:A concerned parent contacted Cindy about the need for parent chaperones for field trips that cost parents money. Parents who choose to accompany class field trips must pay their own way, but in most instances their help is not required. In the event that parent chaperones are necessary for an outing (as is the case when drivers are needed in lieu of hiring a bus), they can inquire at the office for gas cards that the LPTO purchased for carpooling chaperones who require financial assistance.
