Salary:£25,769- £29,847 per annum, depending on skills & experience (minimum of £28,982 with relevant PhD).

The Purpose of the Role:
To undertake research into andcomparative analysis of national legislation implementing the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, with particular focus on the Court’s cooperation regime. To produce comparative cooperation charts and prepare implementation checklists. To assist in the design of and to populate the Cooperation and Judicial Assistance Database (CJAD). To prepare progress reports and communication briefs on project activities.
Main Responsibilities / % time per year1. / Undertake research in international criminal law, with a particular focus on ratification, implementation and cooperation of the International Criminal Court. Conduct needs assessment, compatibility and law reform research. / 40%
2. / Identify, source and analyse national legislation implementing the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, with emphasis on cooperation, but also on crimes, and general principles. This might entail direct contact with authorities in the countries concerned or with researchers in other institutions and NGOs.Conduct comparative analysis of the legislation identified and develop easily accessible comparative charts that will graphically and statistically illustrate research results. / 20%
3. / Contribute to the design of the Cooperation and Judicial Assistance Database. Liaise with the technical developer. Populate the database with research results. Ensure compatibility with existing tools and tools being developed by project partners. / 10%
4. / Implement communications and visibility strategy for project activities liaising with partners as necessary. Draft progress reports and communications briefs (including blog posts). Curate project website and prepare dissemination materials/events. / 20%
5. / Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Essential / DesirableQualifications/ Education /
- Postgraduate degree, or equivalent, in law, involving detailed knowledge of international criminal law.
- PhD, or equivalent, in relevant area.
Skills/Training/Experience /
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Rome Statute for the International Criminal Court and its implementation into national law.
- Familiarity with the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities of the International Criminal Court.
- Familiarity with national criminal law and procedures, and constitutional instruments.
- Excellent comparative legal analytical skills.
- Excellent drafting skills, both for legal texts and outreach materials.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Fluency in English and high proficiency in French.
- Excellent IT skills.
- Experience working in the area of international criminal justice.
- Experience working with legal and/or relational databases.
- Experience of applied research projects.
- Knowledge of other languages – Spanish highly desirable.

The role holder will work closely with partners involved in the project, but will also be expected to develop research independently.
