Biographies

President:

Alma A. Aspiras, MSN, RN-BC, CCM

Alma is a registered nurse for more than 26 years. Her experience includes direct patient care, case management, and leadership/management roles in various healthcare settings. Currently, Alma is the Assistant Director, Case Management at Huntington Hospital. Alma holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Santo Tomas, a Master of Science in Nursing from Loyola University, and is pursuing a Master of Business Administration from Hofstra University. Alma is a member of the national Case Management Society of America and has been steadfastly active with the Case Management Society of America, Long Island (CMSA LI) chapter in various capacities.

Alma participated on the Membership and Website Committees (October 2010 – February 2011), Public Policy Liaison, served on the Board of Directors (February 2011 – April 2013), Treasurer (April 2013 – April 2015) and is the current President of the Chapter (March 2015). Alma’s participation with the CMSA LI chapter resulted in various accomplishments such as Chapter Excellence Award – Best Use of Technology, Chapter Excellence and Innovation Award for Chapter Educational Programming, coordination of Case Management Prep Course. Alma has been pivotal in obtaining Case Management Week proclamations from Governor Cuomo, national legislative representatives and county executives from Nassau and Suffolk. Alma also organized Community Outreach activities to promote public awareness of Case Manager’s Advocacy Role.

James Jacobi, BS

James Jacobi is the Senior Executive for New York / New Jersey area for Medix Care Management. James has been working in the staffing and recruiting industry since June 2008. Through his tenure with Medix, he has worked out of their Chicago, New Jersey New York, and Boston markets where he’s partnered with industry leading hospitals, physician groups, health plans, home health, and third party companies. In his role, he is passionate about working with executives, population health leaders, and clinicians in the Care Management industry to address/identify talent gaps and imbalances that threaten the success, quality and cost of managing their Medicare, Medicaid and commercial health populations. James is responsible for hiring and developing young people to achieve their professional goals in their careers. He is a member of HFMA, CMSA, ACMA, AAHAM and ACHE. James is also a strong team member and loyal and selfless leader.

James participates in the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) MA/RI Chapter and was Co-Chair on the Revenue Cycle Committee for coordinating, planning, strategizing and executing a 500+ person two-day conference at Gillette Stadium.

James was an active member of the Case Management Society of America New England chapter– He served on Board of Directors as Massachusetts Extension Co-Chair that was responsible for education event planning for 8+ events annually throughout the state. James also served as chair of the Social Media Committee.

Treasurer

Shelly Samuel

Shelly has been working in the home care industry for more than 12 years. Shelly’s experience includes Account Manager and Regional Sales Manager with Advance Care. Her responsibilities included management of 13 on-site clinical liaisons in the 5 boroughs and Long lsland. We worked very closely with Case Managers and Social Workers to insure a safe discharge to the patient’s home. Shelly also worked at Alvita Care, Licensed Home Care Agency where she facilitated assignment of Care Managers, nurses, and aides to care for patients to remain safely at home in the community. Shelly current employment is with Americare PS Home Infusion. As the Director of Sales, Shelly works closely with Care Managers and Social Workers to support discharge of patients requiring IV medications at home.

Shelly has been a member of the Case Management Society of America Long Island chapter since 2004 and the NYC chapter since 2007. She has been an active member of CMSA LI Board of Directors since 2005. Shelly is diligent in ensuring the meeting venue is prepared and meals are ordered at a fiscally appropriate rate. Shelly is currently the Treasurer of CMSA LI. She also regularly attends the CMSA NYC chapter meetings. Shelly noted that many positive changes have occurred with the CMSA LI chapter during the past years; such as, providing CEUs for Social Workers. Shelly looks forward to more positive achievements in the future.
