California Shakespeare Theater to Host “One Great Party”

At San Francisco’s Four Seasons

For Its Annual Gala on March 19, 2011

All Proceeds to benefit Cal Shakes’ Work Onstage, in Classrooms and Throughout Communities

BERKELEY, Calif. – California Shakespeare Theater today announced details for the company’s sixteenth annual fundraising bash, One Great Party, to be held Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 6pm at the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco. The evening, featuring a stellar gala committee led by honorary co-chairpersons Kevin Kline, Nicola Miner & Robert Mailer Anderson, and Carole Shorenstein Hays & Dr. Jeffrey P. Hays, will go to support Cal Shakes’ work on stage, in classrooms and throughout Bay Area communities.

“I’m so glad we are once again bringing our annual fundraising party to the Four Seasons in San Francisco,” said Cal Shakes Artistic Director Jonathan Moscone. “This really is one great party, and I believe deeply in the cause of our organization, which devotes the entirety of its resources to building community through theater.”

One Great Party will begin with a silent auction and cocktail reception featuring a vodka bar by Stockholm Krystal, followed by an elegant dinner with wine provided by Alpha Omega Winery, The Plumpjack Group, Trinchero Family Estates, and Honig Vineyard & Winery; live auction with auctioneer extraordinaire Greg Quiroga; and dancing to swing classics and contemporary tunes with the CoolTones Big Band.

Some of the spectacular auction items include a weekend in LA featuring a live taping and behind-the-scenes tour of Disney’s newest hit show, Shake It Up!, and a personal meeting with the show’s star (and Cal Shakes Summer Shakespeare Conservatory alum), Zendaya; accommodations in Ashland and VIP tickets to attend opening-night festivities at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival accompanied by Jonathan Moscone and Berkeley Repertory Theatre’s Tony Taccone for the world premiere of Ghost Light, (created by Moscone and Taccone); lunch at Pixar Animations Studio and a tour with John Walker, producer of Ratatouille and The Incredibles; getaways to Umbria, France, Hawaii, Palm Springs, and Tahoe; a lavish Napa Valley weekend with accommodations at the luxurious five-star Carneros Inn, personal reservation service and a kitchen tour at the French Laundry, and a twilight tour and tasting at Opus One; hosted dinner party at the Getty Mansion; and a walk-on role during Cal Shakes 2011 season, with full costume and make-up professionally designed by the Cal Shakes production team; to name a few.

Cal Shakes’ Gala is at the core of the company’s annual fundraising campaigns and over the years has garnered more than $3.3 million in support of the Theater’s artistic and education programming. The 2011 season begins June 1 with the company’s first-ever production of Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, directed by Joel Sass.
