JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Exam Invigilator

Salary: £10 per hour

Hours of work: Varied between 8.00 am and 4.00 pm, during the main examination period in May and June, and there may be other occasions throughout the year.

Line manager: The invigilator reports directly to the Examinations Officer.

The role involves assisting staff in the school with the smooth administration and running of public examinations, and may include tasks such as the following:

  • Ensure Centre number and clocks are clearly visible to all;
  • Display exam notices inside and outside exam room;
  • Lay out candidate cards on desks;
  • Fill in seating plan, with date, subject and names of candidates and invigilators/ teachers;
  • Assist in opening and distributing exam papers and any other authorised materials to candidates;
  • Ensure candidates line up quietly outside the exam room and enter in silence, and are aware that they are under exam conditions;
  • Collect any electronic devices, such as mobile phones, iPods etc., and return to students at the end of the exam;
  • Ensure candidates have pens, pencils etc. in a see-through pencil case;
  • Start and finish exams (if needed);
  • Record exam start and finish times so as to be clearly visible to all candidates;
  • Assist in dealing with any queries from candidates;
  • Alert the School Office if a candidate is absent/ needs to leave the exam room in accordance with exam regulations;
  • Supervise candidates who may need to leave the room during an exam;
  • Supervise ‘clash’ candidates between exams;
  • Collect scripts at the end of an exam, and assist in packing and sending off exams;
  • Act as Reader as required for students with access arrangements.
