Coaching of wrestling
Building a championship program
To build a championship program, many things must be taken into consideration. First, as a coach must have a reliable source of people that he can communicate with and has good relationships with. A strong network is a vital tool that can make a team a championship contender. Second, as a coach one must be able to make his practice facility desirable for his athletes and potential recruits to come to. Finally, in order to build a championship wrestling team you must find out how to make the team you have the best they can possibly be.
There are many different approaches that successful coaches have used and perfected in the past and continue to still do today. In today’s society communication with a potential prospect is just a simple, phone call away. It is very important to talk to athletes is by phone, now it is possible to text or call an athlete. It is also important to network to parents. The possibility to reach an athlete by emailing, or by some sort of social media is also a common occurrence. Giving your team some sort of publicity is always helpful. Being able to get your team name out there is always important. It should be a goal to make your program stand out from every other team in the nation, and make it stand out from the competition.
It is important to have clean and nice practice facility. If you don’t have a nice facility, it is important as a coach to do the best you can to make it look good. New equipment, if possible, will help dress up a practice room. Also making sure that it is organized and presentable, If it is cluttered with things that rarely get used it will make the room look even smaller and make it look even worse than it is. If you have a nice practice facility it is important to show it off and emphasize its importance by having a presentable facility you will not only be able to keep the athletes you have currently, as a coach you will be able to bring in better recruits that could greatly add to your roster.
Finally, as a coach trying to build a championship wrestling team it is very important to is having the best team compete at every given opportunity. Make sure to know your team’s strengths and weaknesses. Whether it be roster depth or where your stud athletes are located. Many times it
may be crucial to have individual practices not only with your better athletes but with the ones that need improvement, so that you can narrow down what needs to be worked on. This is done most beneficially at the beginning of the year, so that you can get the most out of the individual practices. Also by working on their weaknesses, they will be able to catch up with those on the team who don’t struggle in that area. It is important to remember that what works for on individual or one team may not work for another team or another individual.
