REPORTED INCIDENTS DURING THE LAST MONTH

15/11/2016 – 15/12/2016

44160433724 – CRIMINAL DAMAGE: 16/11/2016:

Several wooden posts and a barb wire fence have been damaged on the outskirts of Newport. According to the aggrieved the person/s have damaged the fence to gain access to a field.

44160435775 – SUSPICIOUS PERSON: 18/11/2016:

A farm owner has reported an incident where a dark blue Ford transit had pulled up at her farm shop on the outskirts of Wootton. A male asked if she would be interested in buying some pork and sausages. The informant believes that the meat was stolen. The registration number of the van was Y629 NLF.

44160436151 – ACTION FRAUD: 18/11/2016:

A farm owner has reported that she has been the victim of a scam. The aggrieved received a phone call from someone pretending to be from BT. They have managed to scam just over £7,500 from the lady.

44160437058 – THEFT: 19/11/2016:

Items have been taken from a business on the outskirts of Wootton. Jewellery has been stolen from a locked cabinet. CCTV footage has been used to identify the offender. Police have arrested a male and the investigation is still ongoing.

44160438859 – CRIMINAL DAMAGE: 21/11/2016:

Four windows have been damaged at Appuldurcombe House. There has been several incidents at this location in recent months. The local Police team are carrying out evening patrols to see if they can identify any suspects.

44160446213 – WILDLIFE RELATED INCIDENT: 26/11/2016:

A report was taken about hounds running loose in the Atherfield area. The informant was concerned that the hounds were out of control close to a very busy road.

44160447094 – CRIMINAL DAMAGE: 27/11/2016:

A stable owner in Newchurch has reported that person/s unknown have cut a padlock and opened a gate to several fields. There was also a trail of blue crushed power leading out of the entrance. A Country Watch officer attended the scene to carry out further investigations. It turns out that the empty neighbouring property was broken and the copper water tank was stolen. The blue powder turned out to be the insides of the tank. The offenders used the neighbouring field to gain access to the dwelling.

44160447351 – CRIMINAL DAMAGE: 27/11/2016:

A horse owner in Northwood has reported that person/s unknown have opened several stable doors. Both of the doors were locked when they were last attended to. Nothing had been taken.

44160451015 – SUSPICIOUS OTHER: 30/11/2016:

A gamekeeper from a Freshwater estate has reported that he has found used gun cartridges at several locations. Informant wanted to report for our information in case there had been any reports of poaching in the area. The informant also found two make shift styles at either end of the land where they keep the game birds.

44160455773 – ASB NUISANCE: 02/12/2016:

A workman for the National Trust has reported he had seen two riders on mini-moto’s riding around the fields near to the radar station on St Boniface Down. The bikers have also spooked a large herd of Highland Cattle and left a stock gate open.

44160455841 – CRIMINAL DAMAGE: 03/12/2016:

Person/s unknown have sprayed yellow paint on a post to the entrance to her land. The land owner is concerned that her property has been marked for someone to return and steal her geese. Police have given suitable crime prevention advice.

44160463796 – SUSPICIOUS PERSON: 09/12/2016:

A report was taken that someone was believed to be picking magic mushrooms on Brading Marshes. Details were taken of their vehicle. Country Watch officers have spoken to the vehicle owner enquiring what he was doing on this land.

44160466399 – BURGLARY OTHER THAN IN A DWELLING: 11/12/2016:

A rural timber yard has been targeted by person/s unknown on the outskirts of Yarmouth. A number of items have been taken including number plates from a truck. Several tyres have also been slashed.

44160467801 – BURGLARY OTHER THAN IN A DWELLING: 12/12/2016:

Several thousands of pounds have been stolen from a rural business in Godshill. Investigations are still ongoing.

44160467987 – SUSPICIOUS PERSON: 12/12/2016:

A member of public has reported several males acting suspiciously in the area of Parkhurst Forest. Police attended soon after the report but were unable to locate the males.

44160469442 – CRIMINAL DAMAGE: 13/12/2016:

Unfortunately Appuldurcombe House has been targeted again. Seven windows have been damaged.

44160469945 – SUSPICIOUS OTHER: 13/12/2016:

A passer-by has reported hearing noises coming from a summerhouse located on an unoccupied property on the outskirts of Newport. Police attended and located 6 men inside the summer house. No damage had been caused and on request the males left.

The aim is to give those who live and work in rural communities the opportunity to air their views on rural crime and to help set future rural priorities that will eventually form part of the new rural crime strategy for Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

“It’s not worth the risk!"

Extra patrols aimed at preventing deaths caused by drink and drug driving this December

A month long campaign starts to prevent the destruction and distress caused by motorists who drive after drinking or taking drugs.

Hampshire Constabulary and Thames Valley Police are working together as part of the two forces’ Joint Operations Unit (JOU) to deter and detect behaviour behind the wheel that puts lives in danger on our roads. Drink and drug driving is recognised by independent research as one of the ‘fatal four’ factors that results in collisions that cause people to be killed or seriously injured.

Many fatal or serious collisions on our roads can be linked to the 'fatal four', these being:

· Excessive or inappropriate speed

· Using handheld devices such a mobile phones when driving

· Not wearing seat belts

· Driving whilst impaired by alcohol, illegal drugs or prescribed drugs

Officers from both forces are conducting operations at all times throughout the day and night during December across the areas of Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Thames Valley.

Every driver involved in a collision will be breathalysed by police, and officers will make extra patrols based on intelligence about suspected offenders.

These policing tactics are designed to be a deterrent to any motorist thinking about driving while impaired by the effects of alcohol or drugs.

The Roads Policing Unit is now using Drug Analysers regularly so officers can carry out roadside drug tests when we have reasonable grounds to suspect a motorist may have a trace amount of an illegal drug in their body. If a trace is amount is detected, a motorist can be arrested and a blood sample taken. Those caught can lose their driver’s licence as a consequence.

Reporting an impaired driver

If any member of the public suspects someone is driving while impaired by drink or drugs, please take action to report details to police.

Phone Hampshire Constabulary on 101 or text 80999 with all the details of the vehicle, driver, location and times. In a life-threatening emergency, always dial 999. If you wish to remain anonymous, phone the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

As a result from the national Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Rural Crime Seminar held last year we now have purchased a variety of security products from Solon Security. Solon Security are a Secured by Design Award Company specialising in security products such as alarms, padlocks, deterrent signs, door locks etc. These products are ready to be sold to our Country Watch members at cost price (i.e. at the price we have paid) and all money raised will then go back into purchasing more equipment for use by the rural community.
