114-YEARS 687 400 41 39 39

* The KHSAA decreed no games would finish in a tie after the 1976 season.

1931 -- AP -- Ashland claimed the “national title” this year. Through the 1931 season, it hadn’t lost since Nov. 11, 1925 and hadn’t lost to a Kentucky team since Nov. 11, 1922. They had 47 shut-outs in the previous 7 years; won 31 straight since their last tie; and their record over that 7 years was 63-4-1. The four losses were actually scoreless games that the opposition “won” by having better statistics. During that time they outscored their opponents 2119-123.

At the end of the 1927 season, Jimmy Anderson resigned to coach the basketball team and be Junior High principal. Paul Jenkins took over in 1928. Jenkins continued the fabulous success, then resigned after the 1934 season to take over at Louisville St. Xavier in 1935.
