When describing a person in detail we need to speak or write about the following aspects:

1. What does he/ she look like? ( Physical appearance)

·  Height

·  Build

·  Face

·  Eyes

·  Hair

·  Age

·  Clothes

·  Complexion

2. What is he/she like? (Personality and feelings)

3. Occupation (What does he/she do?)

4. Lifestyle (hobbies, interests, likes and dislikes, preferences, where he/she lives, type of house, relationships…)

Describing People

There are many ways to describe a person. One common way to describe somebody is based on appearance. Among other things, you can describe their build, height, hairstyle, health, and complexion.

Remember there is a group of adverbs we use to intensify the adjectives they accompany. Find below some examples to use them:

Example: She is 97 years old à She’s extremely old OR she is very elderly.

She’s the most beautiful woman in the world. à She’s absolutely gorgeous.

He is an Olympic weightlifter à He’s extremely muscular / strong / well-built.

She will only eat one piece of fruit a day, and nothing else à she’s very skinny.

Since I stopped cycling to work, I’ve put on a bit of weight à I’m quite /fairly chubby

Frank is the best-looking man in the world à Frank is very handsome
