GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Administrative Assistant/Kitchen Supervisor, the Cook completes a variety of duties supporting operations of the Discovery Depot (Child Care Center) kitchen;makes assigned products; meets food sanitation requirements; meets DCFS quantity and quality requirements; Independence Pointe and Macon Resources, Inc. (MRI) safety regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintains proper storage procedures including labels, dates, and properly storing leftovers.
  1. Keeps work area clean, sanitized including but not limited to taking out daily trash, sweep and mop floors.
  1. Demonstrates the ability to operator and initiate repairs for equipment such as:
  2. Electric and steam equipment.
  3. Dishwasher (pots and pans).
  4. Cleaning equipment.
  1. Plans cooking schedule and prepares high-quality food in the correct amount according to standardized recipes and following DCFS standards.
  1. Sets up cafeteria and backups when needed.
  1. Cooks, carries out menu plan, and adjust according to nutritional equivalent substitutes, leftovers, and emergencies.
  1. Grocery shops for needed items and receives deliveries in accordance with the purchases orders.
  1. Demonstrates the understanding and knowledge of proper techniques for food preparation, including but not limited to modified diets, snacks, and juices.
  1. Informs supervisor/directors of needed items.
  1. Communicates, retains, and releases information (both written and verbal) on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and Macon Resources, Inc. Policies and Procedures.
  1. Practices and enforces MRI Safety Policies and Procedures and assures the safety of employees persons/families served, agency guests, and agency property.
  1. Keeps supervisor informed verbally and in writing of problems and activities within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond the limit of authority and expertise to the supervisor for direction.
  1. Performs special projects or other related work within the scope of the job responsibilities of this position as required or requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or GED preferred.
  1. Some experience in food service.
  1. Must be able to obtain Food Service Sanitation Certification within six months of hire or during successful completion of the next available course and maintain certification throughout employment.
  1. Must be able to adhere to the Safety Policies and Procedures of Independence Pointe and MRI.
  1. Must be able to complete MRI training requirements.
  1. Must have or be able to obtain first-aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
  1. Must be able to adapt to frequent change and perform adequately when confronted with critical or unexpected issues; make sound clinical judgments based on sound reasoning in daily and emergency situations.
  1. Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both oral and written form and be able to meet and work with the public
  1. Must be able to identify and implement creative solutions to problems.
  1. Must be able to organize and prioritize work.
  1. Must be able to work flexible hours.
  1. Must have reliable transportation to conduct agency business and/or to transport individuals served as needed; must maintain a valid Illinois Drivers License and a good Motor Vehicle Record; and must maintain personal auto insurance with minimum coverage of Bodily Injury-Liability per Person of $100,000 and Liability per Accident of $300,000, Property Liability of $100,000; Medical Payments of $5,000; and Uninsured/Underinsured Person of $100,000 and Accident of $300,000.
  1. Must be able to meet the following physical capabilities:
  2. Lift and carry 50; able to assist in lifting and transferring an individual who is non-ambulatory from sitting to standing; standing to lying; and back to sitting from all positions.
  3. Full range of mobility--pull, push, turn, stoop, kneel, reach, bend.
  4. Stand for up to 45 minutes.
  5. Vision correctable to 20/20 or sufficient to complete job responsibilities.
  6. Exhibit manual dexterity.
  7. Adequate hearing.
  1. Must be able to counsel, advise, teach, resolve conflicts, and direct staff, individuals and families.
  1. Must be able to utilize a phone, computer, wordprocessing software, E-mail, and the filing system.
  2. Must have a means of notifying his/her supervisor if unable to report to work.
  1. Must be able to summarize, synthesize and analyze data/information.
