5) Chaperones:
If you wish to be a chaperone, we will complete a background check. You must stay with the class the entire duration of the trip. Per county policy, you will need to drive your own vehicle to and from camp. We will need parents to assist in transporting our students’ luggage in your vehicles, as we cannot transport luggage on the buses. You will sleep in the cabins with the teachers and students, male parents with boys and female parents with girls. The cost for parent chaperones is $100. Please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible if you are interested in attending because it can take up to 6 weeks for background checks to be finalized.

January 6th - $35
February 3rd - $35

Medication at Camp Thunderbird
Per school policy, NO CHILD WILL SELF-CARRY MEDICATION.
What does this mean?
If your child needs any over-the-counter or prescription medication, you will need to have a doctor’s authorization on the Camp Thunderbird medical forms.
This includes:Tylenol or pain medication
Allergy Medications
Stomach, indigestion medications
Inhalers
Any other prescription or over-the-counter medications
For safety purposes, even if a child self-carries medicine or inhalers at school, they will not be permitted to do so at camp. New orders will need to be sent from your doctor for this trip. Your child’s teacher will be trained to carry, administer, and log any medication given. If your child doesn’t need any medication, the medical form doesn’t need a doctor’s signature.
If you are a chaperone and your own child needs medication at camp, you will not need to have a doctor’s note since you will be administering those meds. This is only required if you are not attending the trip.
Insurance for Camp Thunderbird
Please be aware that your child needs to be covered by medical insurance to attend Camp Thunderbird. If they are not covered under your personal insurance, you can buy short-term insurance through United Healthcare Insurance. This insurance is usually $35-$40 and can be purchased through United Healthcare. ( )
Thank you for considering this opportunity for your child. We would not plan and attend this trip every year if it wasn’t absolutely worth it! They will be safe, be fed, learn a lot, and most importantly have a once in a lifetime experience.
Sincerely,
5th Grade Teachers
