Dear Students,

To help fast processing of your homework, please, adhere to the following guidelines while preparing homework solutions. Doing so may also help you to find errors in your solution before submission.

SUBMISSIONS:

Place problems in the same order as they appear on the assignment.

Start each problem at new page if you are writing by hand.

Do not copy problem description.

Write your name in same form as it appears on your official UTD record on the front page.

Staple your papers.

SOLUTIONS:

If a problem statement asks you to develop an algorithm, please, provide the following in the order specified:

Brief description of the algorithm and the pseudocode with enough comments;
A working example may complement algorithm's description but never substitutes the latter;
Proof of correctness;
Running time analysis.

If a problem asks you to modify an algorithm suggested in a textbook, you can refer to routines provided in the book by their name and don't need to copy them entirely, you may just present the changed part and specify where the change occurs. This should also be followed by correctness proof and running time analysis.

If a problem asks you to provide a counterexample, describe a simple case where the algorithm fails and explicitly specify where the failure occurs.

COMPLAINTS:

I am always happy to answer your questions about the homework grade, but I kindly ask you to raise them no later than two weeks after the homework had been returned.

Every time I receive homework, I notify the people whose papers I don't get. If you submit a paper but don't receive it back, please, contact me or the professor ASAP; and no complaints will be accepted at the end of semester.

GENERAL COMMENTS AND EMAIL POLICY:

The university demands that TA's do not leave graded papers in accessible place like insecure mailbox. So I am not leaving assignments in my mailbox, and please, don't ask me to do that. I return all papers to the professor once they have been graded.

I gladly answer your questions about class material, homework problems and homework grades. Please, direct your other questions like prospective exam contents, exam and final grades, etc to the professor.

I greatly encourage usage of UTD email. If you use non-UTD email, please, introduce yourself and mind that I cannot discuss questions like your homework grade with non-UTD email correspondent (per UTD requirement) and I also don’t open attachments sent from such emails.

If you cannot come to class but need to submit assignment, please, send two copies, to the professor and to me. Or, if your printer is down or your printing quota is suddenly over or in similar case you can also send assignment by email (two copies) before the class starting time.

If you send me an email and worry about whether I get it or when I read it, please, request read receipt. For example, in UTD email “message compose” window, you need to mark corresponding checkbox at the bottom.
