CLASS TITLE:TELECOMMUNICATIONS CONSULTANT

This is work administering, planning, designing and integrating telecommunication system(s).
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

- Reviews telecommunication system plans for completeness and accuracy.
- Directs assigned data center personnel in the planning, scheduling, and implementation of a telecommunication system.
- Consults with users to gather information in order to determine requirements for implementation of telecommunications system(s).
- Conducts major studies to determine telecommunication system requirements.
- Serves as contracts administrator for telecommunication projects.
- Provides long-range planning related to telecommunications for upper level management.
- Determines staffing needed to ensure maximum utility of time and resources in telecommunications area.
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of telecommunication systems design.
- Knowledge of computer operations systems and procedures.
- Knowledge of telecommunications software and protocols.

- Ability to plan, analyze and implement telecommunication system(s).
- Ability to design and integrate telecommunications systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree from a college or university with a major in one of the computer sciences, management information systems or electronic engineering and two years of telecommunications experience; or
- A high school diploma or its equivalent and six years of experience in telecommunications, data processing (excluding data entry), electronics or engineering, three years of which must have been in telecommunications.
- College education from an institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours per year for a maximum of two years of the required non-telecommunications experience provided such education includes two courses in one of the areas described above.
- Vocational/technical training in one of the areas described above can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours per year for a maximum of two years of the required non-telecommunications experience.
- Completion of a vendor supplied program of study of four or more weeks in telecommunications can substitute for one year of the required experience.
