WELCOME

The Ridgeland-Hardeeville High School Physical Education Department look forward to the opportunity to introduce, challenge, and progressively increase your knowledge and skills in our Physical Education classes. We are committed to encouraging achievement, maintenance, and enhancement of a healthier lifestyle.

Standards Physical Education

Course Description

The Physical Education Course is designed to enhance the awareness and knowledge of healthy lifestyle choices.

o How and where do I find health information and resources?

o What can I do to avoid or reduce health risks?

o What influences my health behaviors and decisions?

o How can communication enhance my personal health?

o How do making good decisions keep myself healthy?

Classroom Expectation

Our gym is a place of learning; you are to conduct yourself in a respectful manner. This class is “G rated class” Profanity, criticizing or insulting other will not be tolerated. We will keep the gym clean at all times. Treat the gym as if it was your home. Use manners, be respectful. Class meetings will consist of dressing out and participating each and every day. Which will allow you to make choices that, will enhance your physical needs. You are expected to complete all classwork so you are prepared for the next class. You are expected to do everything possible to be successful.

Course Evaluation and Assessment

Students are expected to participate in class activities. Grades breakdown for Report Cards

30% Participation, in- class activities

25% Skills test

10% Dress out

10% Special Project

DRESS

Though there is no required uniform, all students should come prepared to dress to participate in the activity. These clothes will include a T-shirt or sweatshirt and shorts or sweatpants. We will go outside during inclement weather so dress accordingly on those days. The most important required item of clothing is shoes. When we are in the gymnasium, please where basketball/tennis type shoes. When we are participating in field sports you may use rubber or plastic spiked shoes.

Though class will start each day at the designated time, I will try to dismiss class 5-8 minutes early so that you may change.

PARTICIPATION

All students must participate in the assigned activity or chose to complete the writing assignment. Students refusing to do either will be assigned detention according to the RCBOE detention policy. Points will be deducted per day of no participation. (Active engagement from opening to closing of the lesson)

Students needing accommodations for disabilities should provide excuses from a medical doctor.nformation

SECURITY

1. P.E. Lockers are to be used at, “CLASS PERIOD ONLY. *LOCKERS MAY NOT BE

SHARED.

1.Do not tamper with or attempt to open any other locker.

2.Purchase your own lock.

3.Never give your combination to anyone, if you have a problem ask a teacher for help.

4.Before leaving the locker room for roll call check make sure your lock is LOCKED.

5.DO NOT KEEP $$$ OR VALUABLES IN YOUR LOCKER.

6.Understand that you are responsible for your property so secure it.

7. Book bags are not allowed in the gym or locker room. Leave your bookbag in your school locker and bring your changing clothes only to the gym areas. ALWAYS lock everything in a locker during class. DO NOT leave anything on the floor or on the bench.

8.Do not linger in the locker room. Be in roll call on time. Students are not allowed in the locker room without supervision. Doors will be locked during class time.

9.Electronic equipment of any kind is not allowed in the locker room or in class.

10.Flagrant disregard for locker room safety or security will result in loss of locker room privileges.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS, SAFETY, RULES, AND PROCEDURES

1.For personal safety and that of others, all safety rules must be followed in all PE facilities and areas.

2.ALL accidents or injuries must be reported to your teacher immediately.

3.Each student is responsible for her/his behavior. This includes, but is not limited to, keeping hands to one’s self, hazing (ANY activity that causes physical, emotional, or mental harm to others) or harassment (actions or verbal).

4.Locker rooms are for undressing, dressing, and showering only. NO running, jumping or rough housing in the locker room, NO rough housing in PE at anytime.

5.When entering gym or any PE area for roll call or class activity; students will WALK to the assigned area and STAND in ROLL CALL ORDER until further instructed by a teacher.

11.Access to the locker rooms is granted only during your class period during dress out and dress in time.

Homework assignments are due at the start of the nextclass period. If you are absent, homework is due at the start of the next class period. It is your responsibility to find out what you missed the next day you are in school. You will then have 48 hours to complete the work. If you are

No food or drinks in the gym, except for water. Breakfast, Lunch or dinner is to be eaten before you get to class

Attendance/Tardy Policies- Students need to be in class when the bell rings. Class will beginat the bell. If you are late to class you will need to sign in the TARDY LOG!

Electronic devices- cell phones, iPod, and other personal electronic devices are not permittedin class. You will not be given a warning. If I see an electronic devise out, you will be written up.

Passes-Are only given out for emergency trips to the bathroom. This should be done on alimited basis, as class time is valuable. Use passing time, break time, before and after lunch to usebathroom.Teacher Contact Information
