*We had a great turn out for our Veritas Invitational Cross Country meet last week with 10 other high school teams participating. Leading the way for Veritas Boys were Kiefer (11th overall) with an 18:47. Cameron Lewis and Colt Drew were under 22:00. Jarret Nadeau and McCoy Kluttz were under 23:00.
Evy Vickery led the way for the girls with an 8th place finish with a 22:03, earning a Top 10 medal. We had five other girls under 24:00: Caroline Thompson, Sarah McCartney, Josephine Vickery, Adrienne McMahan and Hannah Stage.
Many of our runners got their personal best times for the year. Also, we honored our two seniors Makaela Morris and Grace Thompson, who have been a part of our team since sixth grade. We appreciate your hard work, leadership and love for your teammates and coaches. You truly set a good example. We are thankful to have you as our 2017 captains! Grace ran a 26:06 and Makaela Morris ran a 27:21 in their final home race. Congrats!
*The varsity boy’s soccer team traveled to Weaverville for a match with Reynolds Mountain Monday. The Warriors scored a 9-0 victory. Senior Riley Marshall had 2 goals (season total 7), Freshman Griffin Bowen scored 2 goals (3), Junior Vuk Stankovic (2), Senior Chris Biron (11), and Freshman Cameron Seifried (2) also chipped in with goals. Juniors Cameron Ledbetter and Matthew Hrncir scored their first goals of the season. Assists were provided by Senior Sean Frabitore (6, 7, 8), Cameron Seifried (4), and Junior Ben Anderson (2).
Tuesday, Haywood Christian Academy came to Fletcher. VCA triumphed 12 -3. Chris Biron had 5 goals (16), Vuk Stankovic netted a hat trick (5), and Griffen Bowen (4), Luke Petree (8), and freshman Josh Madison (1) also scored. Assists were provided by Luke Petree (12), Riley Marshall (4), Ben Lynch (2), and Ben Hill (2).
Thursday, the Warriors traveled to Candler to face the Trailblazers. After a tough, competitive match, VCA fell 2 -1. Luke Petree netted VCA’s goal, his 9th of the year. The assist was given by Ben Lynch his 3rd of the season. Junior goal keeper James Madison recorded 9 saves. Next week, the Warriors host Imagine Charter on Tuesday and then senior night is Thursday against visiting Reynolds Mountain.
*Our Lady Warrior volleyball teams played well last week with big wins over Reynolds Mountain and Haywood Christian. Our JV and Varsity girl’s teams did fall short on Thursday versus WCAA Trailblazers. Our JV girl’s team will travel to Asheville School today for a match at 4:30 and our varsity will finish out the regular season with a match on Thursday at home against Reynolds Mountain.
*The middle school Lady Warrior volleyball teams finished out the WCCMSC regular season undefeated with wins over Reynolds Mtn, Haywood Christian and Immaculata this week. Our girls will try and continue their winning ways today as the play in the first round of the WCCMSC Conference tournament at 6:00. If they win today, they play in the finals tomorrow at 4:30 at Veritas.
*The middle school boy’s soccer team won last Tuesday versus Haywood Christian and lost a tough match on Thursday at Bon Clarken against Immaculata. They will play at 4:00 today in the first match of the tournament. If they win at 4:00, they will turn around and play the championship match at 5:45.
