Title: STOP THE TRAFFIK (STT) Modern Slavery Community Coordinator

Function/Team: STOP THE TRAFFIK

Location: Colchester Police Station ‘Safer Colchester Partnership’ Hub

Hours: Part time, 24 hours per week, inclusive of breaks. (The breakdown of those hours to be by mutual arrangement and to meet the needs of STT and Colchester Police Safer Colchester Partnership Hub)

Unsocial working: Occasional weekend and evening working is required

Start date: Ideally November 2017

Summary of Role:

STT is a groundbreaking charity established in 2008, working with communities across the world to assist in preventing modern slavery and human trafficking.

At the heart of our work is the desire to prevent the abuse and harm caused by modern slavery and human trafficking by building communities that are resilient to modern slavery through awareness raising initiatives and campaigns, alongside a coordinated and cohesive response connected to strategic partnerships in the UK and globally.

STT has grown exponentially over the past 9 years – as we have focused on building a community response to modern slavery. Our work in the UK has grown in terms of the development of communities who have an early prevention focus rooted into strategic partnerships and initiatives with law enforcement, statuary services, non-government organisations (NGOs), finance and business.

In order to STOP THE TRAFFIK and see an end to modern slavery we need to campaign effectively, gather information to know and understand what the true picture of modern slavery is and use this information to resource communities to become resilient against modern slavery.

In collaboration with Colchester Community Policing Team, STT is seeking a Modern Slavery Community Coordinator to be based at Colchester Police Station – to work within the ‘Safer Colchester Partnership Hub’ team. The aim of the Colchester Community Safety Partnership is to work together to reduce crime and disorder in Colchester.

The post holder will also collaborate with the Kent and Essex Anti-Slavery Partnership plans and strategy - as an active member of the Kent and Essex NGO and Community Partnership Group. The Kent and Essex Anti-Slavery Partnership focuses on key issues such as, victim identification, victim support, raising awareness, reducing harm caused by slavery, increasing victim awareness and resilience against slavery and human trafficking and disrupting these crimes.

This post will require someone who is able to work effectively in partnership with key stakeholders. To develop and deliver a strategic community prevention model. To provide excellent leadership to engage locally and regionally into already existing networks and partnerships. To be able to evidence the effectiveness of this community prevention approach in tackling modern slavery.

With the support of the STT National Coordinator, the post holder will schedule an achievable years programme and strategy to achieve the following outcomes:

▪  To build and evidence increased resilience from modern slavery across identified at risk communities in the region.

▪  Assist in building an effective community response to modern slavery through the development of a strong and active modern slavery community network/forum across the region.

▪  An increase of active engagement with at risk communities, young people, faith/community networks, non-government organisations and the business sector to respond together in the fight against modern slavery.

▪  An increase in the awareness of modern slavery through events, campaigns and awareness raising programs across communities in the region.

▪  Increase in victim identification and protection through awareness raising programs and collation of relevant support services to ensure appropriate signposting for victims of modern slavery.

▪  Uncover a clearer intelligence picture of modern slavery by promotion of existing local and national reporting mechanisms, STOP THE TRAFFIK’s STOP APP and social media campaigns for the wider community to inform further prevention campaigns and initiatives.

This role will be supported by the learning gleaned from STT Coordinator’s role based at Greater Manchester Police Modern Slavery Coordination Unit. The post holder will be supported by the STT UK team and line managed by the STT UK National Coordinator.

It is important that this role operates within the strategy of the STT, Colchester Police’s ‘Safer Colchester Partnership’ Hub and in partnership with Kent and Essex Police Anti-Slavery Partnership.

The post holder will utilise and adapt STT resources and intelligence where necessary.

At the end of this contract, STT hopes to successfully secure additional funding to further develop this unique role to equip communities to spot the signs of modern slavery and create intelligence-driven, community-led prevention campaigns.

The Modern Slavery Community Coordinator will represent STT at a national and regional level where appropriate and tell the story of the impact of the work delivered.

Area of Responsibility and Specific Duties:

·  To develop and host a Modern Slavery Network/forum within the Colchester and Tendring area including relevant external partners and stakeholder organisations - With the view to extending to further areas within the Essex County region in the future.

·  To communicate with and work as part of the Colchester Police ‘Safer Colchester Partnership’ Hub team.

·  To collaborate with the Essex and Kent Anti-Slavery Partnership strategy across the Essex County region.

·  To develop a successful community prevention models with particular respect to those places where there is highest vulnerability, with the opportunity to work with multi faith/cultural collaborations and across the town and rural areas within identified at risk groups or communities.

·  To deliver and develop STT Modern Slavery Awareness Raising Education Programs for communities, education and business within an achievable schedule and strategy.

·  To recruit and resource volunteers to assist them in the delivery of STT community awareness campaigns and initiatives.

·  To effectively inform funding bids and manage budgets with financial planning alongside STT UK Team.

·  To ensure the message and brand of STT and Colchester Police ‘Safer Colchester Partnership’ Hub is consistent and well managed.

·  To be the voice and story teller of the STT UK story for multiple audiences across media and to market to new sectors enabling easy access for new growth of the network and engagement at local level to develop a replicable model to share.

·  To monitor and evaluate the success of the community model and contribute intelligence and learnings to STT, Colchester Police ‘Safer Colchester Partnership’ Hub and across the wider Essex County region as the work develops in the future.

·  To promote STT campaigns via social media and communities, as well as, the national and regional main reporting points of contact.

Modern Slavery Community Coordinator

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/job knowledge / ·  Undergraduate degree or evidence of relevant experience
Knowledge / ·  Awareness of STOP THE TRAFFIK and Modern Slavery – UK and International legislation, UK National Framework to support victims of modern slavery.
Skills and Experience / •  Proven management skills across community projects involving multiple stakeholders
•  Ability to work across a multi-agency team (including: law enforcement, local authority safeguarding, immigration, probation, health and specialist NGOs)
•  Ability to coordinate and chair community and multi-agency forums
•  Ability to deliver workshops and awareness raising education programs for frontline professionals, education and with young people.
•  Ability to engage and mentor volunteers
•  A good public communicator with demonstrable interpersonal and written skills
•  A genuine team player that can engage with stakeholders and build relationships at all levels
•  Committed to delivery to the highest standards
•  Motivated and highly organised with the ability to manage their time, work under pressure and take on multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
•  Able to adapt messages appropriately for diverse audiences both internally and externally

Experience working within a safeguarding role for local authority, law enforcement, education or an NGO.
