NBCC discovers Gold in WellandCanal

The North Bay Canoe Club attended the 2012 Trillium Provincial Championships this past weekend in Welland with hopes of success, but could not have predicted the results the NBCC paddlers put forth.

Leading the Gold Rush was Sean Patterson, Bantam Boys, with 3 gold medals. The Peewee Mixed War Canoe followed suit with a photo finish gold medal. The team was led by Martin Roy, coach at NBCC. Paddling the war canoe to the provincial championship was Garrett Guillemette, Cam Gray, Will Hotson, Amilia Wilson, Sean Cazabon, Danica Gagnon, Justin Smith, Nathan Peachey, Andrew Robinson, Darcy Korswagen, Max Kerrigan, Shkaabewish Tabobondung, Joel Gagne, and Jared Mechefski. The Peewee Boys also captured the overall Peewee Boys Provincial Champions Burgee against some much bigger clubs from the south.

In Bantam Boys A finals, Patterson captured Gold in the C-1 2000m race, Gold in the C-1100 sprint, and Gold in the C-2500m with Justin Rancourt. Rancourt added a Gold of his own in the K-1100m race, and a Bronze in the K-1 2000m final. In B Finals,Owen Watkins added a Silver in the C-1100m and a Bronze in the C-1 2000m final. Elijah Everest earned a Silver medal in the C-1 2000m final. The Bantams then invited 9 of the Peewee Boys to help paddle the Bantam Boys war canoe to a Silver medal.

Zeyana Laplante struck Gold in the Bantam Girls K100 A final with a very strong race.

In Peewee Boys A Finals, Tabobundung silvered in the K-1 1000m, and the C-1 1000m finals and won Bronze in the C-1100m, where Smith grabbed a Silver medal. Peachey added a bronze in the K-1100m sprint. In B Finals, Kerrigan captured Gold in the K-1 1000m, and silver in the C-1100m finals. Gagne won Gold in the K-1100 m race. He also grabbed 2 Silvers in the K-1 1000m race and the K-2500m with Gray. Tabobondung then grabbed Gold in the C-1100m. Korswagen won Gold in the K-1 1000m, and a Bronze in the K-100m finals. Robinson and Hotson teamed up for a Bronze in the C-2500m finals.

Amilia Wilson won the Provincial Championship in the K1100m Peewee Girls race.

This marks the end of the season for the Bantam and under age groups. They will be cheering on their team-mates at the Ontario Summer games this week and than at Nationals in Halifax the week later.
