Student______
Period ______
- Pre AP AP classes demand you read literature of merit and exemplary texts, occasionally of adult topics, and intended to provide the rigor and stamina to prepare you for college work.
- For your independent reading this school year, you’ll choose a selection from the following quarterly lists and are expected to finish the book to earn a passing grade.
- Your selection will be entered into our classroom log as you begin reading it & will be subject to my approval.
- For each book you will complete a Major Data Works Sheet (MDWS). See attached for sheet anddue dates.
- Also on the due date, you will also be required to complete an in-class writing assignment test, using your book to complete it in one class period.
- PLEASE NOTE: you are expected to actually read the selection you choose, not just Cliff’s Notes or SparkNotes summaries or information. Your in-class writing and your MDWS will show that you have read the book completely and your grade will reflect this expectation.
- There is no make-up text, re-do, or late work accepted for this ongoing assignment. As AP students, please plan ahead and complete the assignments on time all year.
- Have your Parent or Guardian complete the box below and you’ll return this page to me tomorrow.
- You’ll also keep an on-going independent reading journal (IRJ) with weekly entries (due and graded on Fridays) that will be graded randomly throughout the year. Each entry is 100+ words, with page numbers if you are referencing specific quotes. These notes are to help you with the MDWS entries.
PARENTS/GUARDIANS – PLEASE CHECK AND SIGN JUST ONE OF THE BOXES BELOW:
□ I TRUST MY STUDENT’S JUDGEMENT OF READING SELECTIONS; I DO NOT NEED TO APPROVE EACH BOOK FOR CONTENT.
