STATE BOARD OF MEDICINE TAKES DISCIPLINARY ACTION

WAKEFIELD: At its meeting today the state Board of Registration in Medicine took disciplinary action against the medical licenses of Corey J. Meyers, M.D. and Paul G. Foster, M.D.

The Board summarily suspended the license to practice medicine of Dr. Corey J. Meyers, finding that he poses a serious and immediate threat to the public health, safety and welfare. The Board alleges that Dr. Meyers’ license to practice medicine in New York was revoked, his license to practice in Alaska was summarily suspended and his license in New Hampshire was indefinitely suspended. Dr. Meyers is a 1993 graduate of State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and has been licensed to practice in Massachusetts since 1996. Dr. Meyer has a right to a hearing before an administrative magistrate within seven days to appeal today’s action.

The Board accepted the resignation of the medical license of Dr. Paul G. Foster. Resignation is a disciplinary action that permanently removes a physician from practice. Dr. Foster is a 1960 graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine. He is board certified in Family Medicine and has been licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts since 1963.

The Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine licenses more than 40,000 physicians, osteopaths and acupuncturists. The Board was created in 1894 to protect the public health and safety by setting standards for the practice of medicine and ensuring that doctors who practice in the Commonwealth are appropriately qualified and competent. The Board investigates complaints, holds hearings and determines sanctions. More information is available at www.mass.gov/massmedboard.
