Biology 1-1: Macromolecule Assessment
This assessment will be evaluated using the following competencies/standards:
- P02 – Planning and Responsibility
- S04 – Scientific Communication
- Biology Standard – Cell Chemistry
Each rubric is evaluated as a separate item and will reflect individually on your overall grade. 50% will be attributed to the cell chemistry standard, 35% will be attributed to the Diploma Plus science competency and 15% will be attributed to the personal competency. The evaluation for each rubric is described below.
Biology Standard – Cell Chemistry
For this assessment, students will be evaluated to how well their product demonstrates a strong, working knowledge of the four macromolecules in living cells. Specific focus will be given to carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, monomers and polymers.
Declarative Knowledge / The student knows basic facts and details about the content. / The student makes connections between the facts and details and how they fit together. / The student independently applies knowledge to real-world contexts or to other content areas. / The student analyzes the connections, implications or influences of knowledge. / The student uses knowledge to make and defend decisions or solve problems and justify solutions.S04 – Scientific Communication
S04. ScientificCommunication: Demonstrate effective scientific communication. / Recognize or recall appropriate scientific vocabulary and communication conventions (e.g., units, notation). / Show procedure and results.Collect and record information or data by “filling in” a table, graph, or other prescribed format. / Use scientific vocabulary, formats (graphs, tables, etc.) and conventions to summarize and explain scientific information. / Select appropriate formats to communicate scientific information (graphs, charts, equations, etc.).
Evaluate the strengths and limitations of a communication strategy for particular purposes and audiences. / Combine effective methods and skills of scientific communication (appropriate language, conventions, displays of data, etc.) to share findings with and invite feedback from a wide audience.
P02 – Planning and Responsibility
P02. Planning and Responsibility: Demonstrate ability to create and execute effective plan and take responsibility for outcomes. / Identify planning tools and define goals.Describe the connection between outcomes and actions. / Demonstrate how to use individual planning tools.
Explain how each tool supports goal setting; plan and reflect on outcomes, actions and progress. / Use appropriate planning tools to set goals and create plan.
Demonstrate an organized approach by applying the plan.
Summarize progress and describe the connections between outcomes and actions. / Modify plan to achieve desired outcomes.
Analyze progress and investigate the connections between outcomes and actions. / Modify planning process as appropriate for a variety of situations.
Evaluate progress and make connections between outcomes and actions.
