Position Title:Health Promotion Worker

Reports To:Centre Manager

Hours of Work:Part-Time, 21 hours per week

(Mon 9am-5pm; Tue 9am-5pm; Wed 9.30am-5.30pm). Includes evening work for group facilitation.

Position Context

CWWHC is a not for profit organisation providing medical, counselling and education services within a feminist framework, to disadvantaged women and children. It is governed by an elected Board.

Currently there are five employed positions and four visiting practitioners. Casual staff may be employed as required.

This position is funded by the Ministry of Health and auspiced by Western NSW Local Health District.

The position requires a background in social sciences, health promotion,group work, group program development, and community development (preferably with promotion/marketing experience). Also required is experience dealing with cultural difference and disadvantaged women, particularly those affected by trauma (eg. physical, emotional, mental, sexual abuse and domestic/family violence).

Position Summary

The purpose of this position is todevelop, market, implement, evaluate a range of health promotion activities that support the NSW & national health priorities for women. The position is also required to provide administrative support to our women specific general practice service provided by our visiting general practitioner.

Person Specification

Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health/Social Sciences (eg. Health Promotion, Public Health, Counselling, Social Work, Psychology) or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitation, group work, or training and group program development
  • Demonstrated networking and community development experience with an ability to use social media for marketing and promotion
  • Understanding of trauma and abuse (eg. physical, emotional, mental, sexual), domestic/family violence and issues of cultural difference
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and incorporate feedback on performance
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate holistic approach and feminist perspective
  • Proficient computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Current driver’s licence and reliable vehicle

Specific Accountabilities (refer to time allocation & key performance indicator (KPI) spreadsheets)

  1. Program Delivery
  1. Support for Women's Specific General Practice Service
  2. Maintain the efficient functioning of the clinical environment for visiting practitioners, including:
  • Preparation of clinics for GP
  • Tidying of clinics after GP & preparation of clinic for next visiting practitioner
  • Regular restocking of clinic supplies
  • Audits of medical supplies and arranging scheduled maintenance of clinical equipment and First Aid Kit.
  1. Evidenced Based Group Program Delivery & Health Promotion Activities
  2. Recruitment, preparation, planning and co-facilitation of Mothers & Daughters (Puberty Matters) group (four per financial year, evening programs).
  3. Recruitment, preparation, planning and co-facilitation of Midlife Metamorphosis group (two per financial year, evening programs).
  4. Work collaboratively with Generalist Counsellor/Group Facilitator in recruitment, preparation, planning and co-facilitation of Out of the Dark group (one per financial year).
  5. Work collaboratively with Generalist Counsellor/Group Facilitator in recruitment, preparation, planning and co-facilitation of La Trobe University's "Set Your Body Therapy Free" Body Image Program, 2 days (two per financial year, 1 as HP KPI).
  6. Organise, facilitate, and participate in nine health promotion activities per financial year, in partnership with other organisations.
  7. Coordinate and participate in Centre walking group, once weekly.
  8. Research, adapt and apply evidence based practice to all health promotion activities.
  9. Complete group program record for all groups conducted and enter data in database.
  1. Marketing & Promotion

2.1. Update Centre Facebook page weekly, determining appropriate material for the site.

2.2 Monitor Centre social media weekly.

2.3 Ensure Centre website is current, with monthly monitoring, in conjunction with Administrator.

2.4 Assist Manager with monthly email broadcasts promoting Centre activities.

2.5 Assist Manager with quarterly radio interviews/announcements promoting Centre activities.

2.6 Assist Manager with quarterly newspaper articles promoting Centre activities.

2.7 Distribute flyers within the community (eg. noticeboards) for Centre groups/activities.

2.8 Contribute to the development and maintenance of Centre information resources in- conjunction with Administrator.

  2. Maintain partnership with Bathurst Community Health Centre staff for the co-facilitation of Mothers & Daughters and Midlife Metamorphosis.
  3. Maintain partnership with the Heart Foundation for the ongoing benefit of the Centre walking groups.
  4. Develop appropriate partnershipsfor the delivery of health promotion activities.
  5. Provide court support, two hours, monthly on a Monday, at Bathurst Court House as a seconded worker for Blue Mountains Women's Health Centre, Women's Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (WDVCAS).
  6. Participate in WDVCAS quarterly meetings.

  4. Attend appropriate networking activities and meetings for the development and promotion of Centre activities.
