For year 2018, there are a total of up to 9 JCCAA Traditional Scholarships in this category. The qualifications, required documents, and selection criteria for all 9 are similar.

Announcement

JCCAA will award up to nine scholarships in the amount of $1000 each for the year 2018. Qualified applicants should submit complete documentation postmarked no later than February 28, 2018 to:

Qualifications – Students who:

  • Are currently enrolled in the 12th grade in any high school in the Greater Houston Area;
  • Will pursue a degree at an accredited college or university;
  • Meet the following academic requirements: 1). a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; and 2) SAT score of at least 1800 on a 2400 scale, or 1200 on a 1600 scale, or ACT score of at least 27

Categories – Scholarships will be awarded to the best candidates in the following categories:

•Academic Achievement•Leadership

•Community Service•Extracurricular Activities

Applicant is required to indicate which category he/she would prefer to be considered. During evaluation process, the applicant will be considered for all categories, and his/her specified preference is used for reference only. JCCAA encourages students with outstanding achievement in leadership, community service, extracurricular activities, as well as academics, to apply.

Required Documents

  • A completed Application Form and Information Outlines;
  • A copy of the applicant's high school transcript;
  • A copy of the applicant's SAT or ACT score report;
  • Two letters of recommendation directly mailed to the JCCAA Scholarship Committee, one of which must be from a high school teacher or counselor. If the applicant's class ranking and percentile are not on the official transcript, the letter from school teacher or counselor should indicate these numbers;
  • An essay of 500 words or less with any topic the applicant deems appropriate for Scholarship Committee to consider (for example, an important event in life). The essay must be typed, double-spaced, and on letter size paper; and
  • A resume up to two pages long listing major achievements, honors, awards and activities.

All information prior to the eighth grade will not be reviewed or evaluated. The information submitted must be accurate. JCCAA reserves the right to disqualify applicants who provide fraudulent information. All documents submitted will not be returned to applicants and will be kept strictly confidential by the JCCAA Scholarship Committee.

Timeline:

  • All required documents must be postmarked no later than February 28, 2018.
  • The scholarship recipient will be notified by JCCAA in April/May, 2018.
  • A scholarship award ceremony will take place at JCCAA’s annual banquet to be held in June, 2018.
