2:55 – 3:00 Next Steps

Notes (taken by AP):

Deliverable(s)

· Framework (definition): A guiding document (not curriculum) of standards and continent expectations to be taught according to the college and career readiness standards so that any gaps are filled. What students need to accomplish and be able to do with (College Algebra)

· Course description

· Student Outcomes (Student Learning Outcomes) (Content Expectations)

· Syllabus (Curriculum Guide) that outlines what to be taught, sequence, and time on task for each item

· How student satisfies course by demonstrating outcomes

· Curriculum guide with model lesson plans to be implemented if they so choose to adapt with their own style

· (Timeframe between now and August – what can we do – outline framework, or have content in framework)(TBD)

· Description & Learning Outcomes by end of school year (TBD)

· Syllabus and Curriculum Resources by end of August (to be piloted and tested and tweaked over time) (TBD)

· (“Ideal” course not until end of Spring 2015)

· Timeline – by end of school year 2014 (May 2014) – very tight

· We do have time for feedback with something close to where we want it to be

Experts

· TEA (Angela Pena)

· THECB (Suzanne Morales Vales) (Angela Pena_

· College faculty (HCC, Dana Center)

· High school faculty (Suzy)

· TASA – Coppell and Manor ISD content experts (Dave Surdoval, Manor) (Suzy)

· TASM (Texas Association of Supervisors of Mathematics)/Math professional associations (Dana Center)

· Texmatic (Dana Center)

· TASA (?), but not content experts (Suzy)

· ESC (Education Service Centers)(?)

· Urban/Rural school districts and smaller teacher associations are regional, so not sure (?)

· UT IPSI (Dana Center)

Next Steps

· Concrete on people to be involved

· Running this by larger group – next meeting proposal date, this process

· 12-15 people to produce product/deliverable (not any larger than that)

· Convene at Dana Center in Mid-May after community college finals (May 15, 16, or week of May 19th – tentative)

· Need ELA facilitator/group (?)

· Description and Learning Outcomes Product (1/2 day; full-day, 2-days)

· Determine – Who is this course for? Preparing students to pass TSI (Algebra I); foundation course; developmental course, math A/B? Colleges on move to multiple pathways – entry can be statway, quantway, stemway – we don’t want this course to be used as an entry to only college algebra. TSIA not matched to different pathways. What are the other measures that can be used to have the same validity?
