TOWN OF ST. JAMES

Regular Meeting

May 5, 2009

The St. James Town Council met in regular monthly session at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday

May 5, 2009, at the Members Club.

Council Members Present: Councilors Jim Donnelly, Bruce Maxwell, Gary Tagtmeyer, Bob Morrow and Mayor Shelley Lesher.

Staff present: Town Clerk/Administrator, Josann Campanello.

Others: Emergency Management Director John Lewis, SJ Fire Chief Jim Lesher as well as approximately 40 citizens.

CALL TO ORDER/PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mayor Lesher called the meeting to order and all in attendance joined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

APPROVALOF AGENDA

Councilor Gary Tagtmeyer made a motion to approve the agenda as written.

Vote: 5/0, motion carried.

APPROVAL OF CONSENT AGENDA

Councilor Bob Morrow made a motion at approve the Regular Meeting minutes of April 7th and the Special Meeting minutes of April 16th.

MAYOR/COUNCIL/STAFF REPORTS

a.  Announcement of the Upcoming Hurricane Seminar – Emergency Management Director John Lewis reported that there will be an Annual Hurricane Seminar held on May 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the Members Club. Steven Phaff of the National Weather Service and Randy Thompson, Emergency Management Director for Brunswick County, will be in attendance.

b.  Zoning Activity Report – Town Clerk/Administrator Josann Campanello reported that, to date in 2009, there have been 14 permits issued for single family homes.

GENERAL BUSINESS

a.  Appointment of Judy Hughes as Deputy Clerk and Assistant Zoning Administrator – Jim Donnelly made a motion to approve this appointment.

PUBLIC COMMENT

SJ Fire Chief Jim Lesher announced that residents should be aware that there have been four fires thus far as a result of home owners having pine straw in close proximity to low voltage decorative lighting. It is recommended that residents with this type of lighting,

as well as the neighbors, be aware of this fire hazard.
