. COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Purpose /

Connellsville Area School District promotes coaches and athletes to take pride in themselves, their school, and their sport while striving for the highest academic achievement. Coaches are entrusted as role models and must understand the influence that their words and actions have on athletes, colleagues, officials, parents/guardians, school administration, and the community. They are expected at all times to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner prior to, during, and after all athletic practices and events, both home and away.

The interscholastic athletic program is designed to enhance academic achievement and should never interfere with opportunities for academic success. The welfare of the student athlete shall be uppermost at all times.
2. Guidelines / Code of Conduct
1.  A coach is required to adhere to all policies listed in the Connellsville Area School District Policy Manual.
2.  The Connellsville Area School District believes that the Code of Conduct is a very important part of the athletic program.
3.  A coach should exemplify all that s/he is attempting to develop in those who affiliate with his/her team. A coach should serve as the prime example of good sportsmanship.
4.  A coach shall teach his/her student-athletes that respect for opponents and officials are expected at all times by exhibiting self-control and self-discipline. A coach is required to abide by proper sportsmanship standards. Officials must have the respect and support of the coaches and players. Open criticism of officials is detrimental to the greater good of interscholastic athletics.
Coaching Responsibilities
The responsibilities of those people employed as coaches with the district shall be as follows:
1.  Demonstrate sportsmanship at all times.
2.  Be responsible for the conduct of his/her players.
3.  Help in promoting good crowd decorum.
4.  Refrain from making negative remarks to the news media.
5.  Demonstrate respect for the opposing team; treat as a guest.
6.  Educate student athletes as to the rules and regulations of the game.
7.  Maintain proper conduct before and during the athletic contest.
8.  Read and understand the rules for the sport.
9.  Improper bench control and unsportsmanlike conduct in any sport is unacceptable.
10.  The athlete’s demeanor and conduct is the coach’s responsibility.
11.  The coach must never direct frustration over the outcome of the game to the officials, players or spectators.
