Whitefriars Surgery,

Whitefriars Street,

Perth.

PH1 1PP.

May 2005.

Dear Student,

The Staff would like to welcome you to the Whitefriars Surgery and hope your experience here enables you to learn about nursing in the primary care and community setting.

Your placement time will include opportunities to observe other members of the

multi agency team. In order for you to gain the most from this placement, it may be necessary for you to be flexible some days about your starting and finishing times.

However, staff are aware that some students have family and other commitments and it is hoped we will be able to negotiate a flexible timetable for you.

Please note the following important points:

Please contact your mentor one week prior to your placement to make arrangements to meet and discuss a starting time for your first day.

For patient and staff safety, when working with District Nurses please wear your student nurse uniform, comfortable regulation shoes and outdoor regulation coat. When working with the Health Visitors please wear smart, casual clothes and comfortable but sturdy shoes. Hair should be neatly tied back and jewellery kept to a minimum. Please carry you ID badge at all times.

If you are travelling by car there is plenty of free parking in the staff car park at the surgery. If you are travelling by bus, a number 1 bus runs on a frequent basis from Mill Street (City Centre) to the Leisure Centre located close to Whitefriars Surgery. If you wish, you can bring a packed lunch but there are a number of food outlets within walking distance to purchase hot and cold food. Hot drinks and water are available in the surgery.

If you are absent for any reason during your placement, please inform your mentor and the University department. Your mentor also has an absence procedure to follow.

Finally, remember to bring your OAR booklet on your first day.

If your previous mentor still has the booklet please remind him/her it will be required at the beginning of this placement in order that your learning contract can be discussed.

We look forward to meeting you

Regards

The Community Nursing Team.
