JOB TITLE: Retail Assistant Shop Manager
LOCATION: Southport
DEPARTMENT: Retail
REPORTING TO: Regional Area Manager & Head of Retail
Overall purpose of the Charity:
The North West Air Ambulance Charity provides rapid pre-hospital care needed to make a life-changing difference. We operate three helicopters, flying 365 days a year with doctors and paramedics on board providing emergency medical treatment when time is crucial.

The Retail shops are vital to raising funds and increasing public awareness of North West Air Ambulance Charity. Retail Shop Managers are pivotal to the success of the Charity, the roles requires a passion for the Charity, and we want to generate as much income as possible to ensure we can continue to provide rapid pre-hospital care needed to make a life-changing difference.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Sales and Profit
· To maximise sales and profits ensuring weekly targets are met.
· Maintain an appropriate income/expense budget in collaboration with the Retail Shop Manager/Regional Area Manager/Head of Retail and be accountable for achieving it.
· Seek, utilise and analyse management information including EPOS data to manage shop performance, seizing opportunities for improvement.
· Assist the Retail Shop Manager in managing the team to maximise income from Gift Aid on donated products
· Maximise the shop’s opening hours and ensure the shop is open and managed by the shop team in the managers absence.
Volunteer and Team Management
· Act as a role model for volunteers, ensuring quality of training and the Charity standards are met.
· To ensure regular volunteer cover is sought to guarantee the smooth running of the shop.
· Ensure retention of a quality and diverse volunteer team
· Maintain an empowered, motivated and engaged volunteer team.
· To provide and support ongoing training and development.
· Utilising your volunteer team in line with their skill set.
· Appropriately and consistently assess the skills and potential of the volunteer team, ensuring their value is recognised.
Shop Operations
· Inspire the team to provide a great customer service and donor experience, which attracts new supporters every day.
· Set high standards of cleanliness, display and merchandising.
· Ensure the Health and Safety of your team and customers.
· Establish quality standards, consumer safety and ensuring continuity.
· Represent a good quality of products, being responsible for sourcing sufficient levels of donated stock in collaboration with the wider Retail team.
· Ensure stock is appropriate to the business and priced accordingly
· Maintain a rigorous process of stock rotation, ensuring rotation within expiry dates
Representing NWAA
· Attend and contribute to all Retail meetings and training.
· Play a key role in enabling the shop to represent the Charity’s values and increasing the community’s knowledge of our life saving service.
· To respect confidentiality of all information obtained whilst working for the North West Air Ambulance Charity.
· To consistently demonstrate the NWAA core values (Professional, Dedicated, Dynamic, Thought Leaders) in all interactions with colleagues, volunteers and supporters.
· To work and treat staff and stakeholders in accordance with the Charity’s Code of Conduct.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential / DesirablePhysical / Have the ability to be standing/walking around for most of the day. / Worked in a previous role that contained standing for long periods.
Experience / Experience of managing staff teams in the Retail sector.
Knowledge of Gift Aid procedures.
Knowledge of Health & Safety within the Retail sector. / Previously worked on an EPOS system.
Experience of being part of a Management team in a Charity shop.
Budget Management experience.
Experience of managing volunteers.
Skills / A good standard of numeracy and literacy.
Cash handling experience.
Communicate effectively across a multi-site organisation.
Strong organisational skills.
Must be target driven in order to meet KPI’s set by the Regional Area Manager.
Pro-active team member.
Enthusiastic and have the ability to motivate a team.
Excellent customer service skills.
Ability to train, mentor and coach staff and volunteers.
A good understanding of financial management.
