Simon Kenton Dress Code & Other Policies

2015-2016

The SK Dress code and other policies were approved by S.B.D.M. in May 2015 and subject to change based on the KCS Code of Conduct. The purpose of a dress code is to maintain a proper learning environment. Items of clothing that are disruptive to the learning environment will not be permitted. Students are expected to dress according to this code during the school day.

The following attire is permitted:

· Pants or jeans of the appropriate length and size which do not drag on the floor or expose undergarments.

· Shirts/blouses, sweatshirts, or t-shirts that fit appropriately so that there is no exposure of the stomach, back, ribcage, or cleavage.

· Skirts, shorts, and dresses that fit appropriately so, that when worn at the waist while standing, the length will come to the fingertips without indecency.

The following attire is prohibited:

· Head coverings - hats (caps, beanies, sock), sunglasses, bandanas and hoods unless a recognized religious symbol.

· Holes or frays in jeans/pants that show undergarments or the undergarment area creating indecent exposure.

· Pants that fit so tight that they create indecent exposure.

· Pajama pants, slippers, pillows, and blankets

· Tank tops or camisoles (not covered by another shirt).

· Items of clothing that expose the midriff or reveal cleavage or undergarments.

· All bags, not clear or mesh, are to be checked at front doors. Any item carried to class must fit under a desk and is subject to search.

· Students will not be permitted to bring open containers into the building. No skateboards in the building – at anytime.

· Undergarments worn as outerwear, see-through clothing, dog collars, and chains.

· Clothing, tattoos, or other accessories that depict or promote alcohol, drugs, gangs, violence, tobacco, sexual behavior, profanity, discrimination, racially inappropriate items with provocative symbols, or any other disruptions to the learning environment.

· Trench coats

DISCIPLINARY ACTION

· Administrators and teachers have the final say in determining what is acceptable clothing.

· Violations or arguments concerning the dress code will be considered to be defiance of authority and will be handled using the Kenton County Board of Education Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline.
