Indian Land Action Council met at the Del Webb Library on September 15th, at 7 pm, with approximately 25 in attendance. Treasure, John Delfausse gave a financial report and reminded attendees of the purpose of ILAC, “to educate and inform”. Also, the public is always invited. The membership dues give members voting privileges on ILAC activities. Minutes from the August 18th meeting was approved.
The featured speak was Dean Faile, President/CEO of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce. Dean is the 4th President of Lancaster Chamber and has been President for 10 years.The Chamberhas 400 members and four areasof Development, Business, Community, Membership, and Advocacy. He works with a $325,000 budget, 85% is from membership dues, and employs’ 3 staff members. The Morning Business Connection meeting is back in Indian Land, 2nd Fridays of each month, 8:15 am, at Famous Toastery. This is an opportunity to give a 60 second commercial about your IL business. For members they have monthly Networking meeting, golf tournaments, news letter and additional training available. Monthly ribbon cuttings average about 3 a month now, 2 in IL, 1 in Lancaster. Dean presented videos on the Community Development with Adult Leadership Program, the 8month learning program about LancasterCounty and the Youth Leadership program, for High School students. 30-40 qualifying students currently attend the program each school year. A new program is being brought to LancasterCounty called “Leader in Me” for elementary school students. Very exciting program, watch for it in the future forIndianLand schools. The Advocacy group of the Chamber is a 15 member policy committee that updates members on LancasterCounty, School Board,and Columbia and WashingtonDC
Jane Alford, Gateway editor, spoke to the group regarding the IL Fall Festival, September 24th, at the Cross Ridge. Gateway is partners with the Friends of Del Webb Library this year. Please come for the fun and games.
Ms. Alford and Jane Tanner also announced ILAC will be partnering with the Gateway to present a Candidate Forum, Thursday, Oct.20th at Cross Ridge. They asked for citizens to send their questions for candidates to or .Lancaster Chamber will be also having a Candidate Forum in Lancaster on Tuesday, October 25th at USCL.
Jane Tanner also presented the idea of purchasing custom embroidery koozies, from Creative Mind, for ILAC to present to speakers as a thank you. Members agreed.
Report was read from Planning Commissioner, Jerry Holt who was on vacation. Hearing on the appeal of Two Capital development of 313 apartments on September 26th, County Council meeting. After hearing attorneys Council will vote in closed session rather to uphold the Lancaster Planning Commission decision. Also, the UDO update activity is on-going.
Jane Tanner asked all ILAC members to attend the sponsored Candidate Forum on Oct 20th, as that is ILAC scheduled meeting night. Wear you name tags and mingle.
