Hello Fellow Skiing/Boarding Enthusiasts!

It’s that time of year again when we open enrollment and collect payments for the upcoming season of Ski Club. In the past we have gone to Blue Mountain, as they are the biggest/closest around. However, over the years they have made their passes more restrictive and have raised their rates annually. So, I started to investigate other options, and I have found that Camelback in particular offers a tempting package.

Here’s the comparison:

Blue Mountain / Camelback
Distance from PHS
In miles
In time
(according to Google Maps) / 42.4 m
1 Hr and 3 Min / 52.4 m
1 Hr and 5 Min
Passes/pricing* / $134 for 6 Fridays.
All members must use the passes on just the six Fridays we lock in for as a group. / $99 Night Rider Pass:
3pm to close any day of the week from Jan 1- Feb 28 (minus a few holiday black out dates)
The pass can be used as many times as you like, so you are free to ski on your own in addition to the trips we take together.
After March 1st the pass is no longer limited to evenings and you can ski whenever you like (open to close)

*Prices above do not include the bus fare which is $105

Camelback’s Night Rider Pass is only offered to students. Parents, they do have a ‘Value Pass’ offering for everyone, which is valid

·  Monday – Friday: open-to-close; and

·  weekends after 3PM, all season long.

After March 1st the pass becomes valid any day open-to-close.

This adult pass costs $199.

After conferring with some members, it was clear that we should switch. So, we will now be skiing at Camelback this year!

Camelback does have a different method of enrollment, though, which is completely online. You will each individually log-in, enter your name, address, age, etc., select the pass and rental options you want, and pay them directly with a credit card. No longer would you submit orders/payments to me, except for the bus payment.

The website is:

https://secure.skicamelback.com/clubmgr/GrpLogin2.aspx

Once there, it will ask you for your Club Name, which is: ppd10722

Group Member Password: 14palisades

At this point, you should immediately click the ‘Click Here’ Link to create your specific user account.

After creating your account, you should select Season Ski Passes 13-14

The next page gives you some options, and you should select ‘Night Rider Pass’ (if you’re under 18). Parents/older siblings older than 18 should select one of the Adult options.

Follow the websites instructions, making your selections as you go, and you will pay at the end. Camelback asked me to explain that if you are renting equipment they will not necessarily display the total cost until the end, because apparently renting is taxed. Also, you will have to fill out their waiver.

They also put the individual’s picture on the pass, which unfortunately means that members have to be there to get your picture taken. You can do this on your own, if you don’t mind taking the drive up there. If you do so, you must take their Season Pass Contract (attached) with you, and it must be signed by your parent. Or, you can get your picture taken on our first trip to the mountain on January 3rd (still bring the signed form)- BUT doing so will cut into your time on the mountain, because a whole bunch of other schools will be up there and I imagine there will be quite a line, as everyone tries to get their picture taken at once.

We will be taking a bus up on the following dates (but with the pass, you can go up whenever you like!):

1/3/14 1/10/14 1/31/14 2/7/14 2/28/14

If you want to come with us on those dates, make sure you fill out the paperwork and submit a check made out to Palisades High School for $105.

The other paperwork attached is the permission form/waiver for our district.

All forms must be submitted (online to them, and school paperwork to the front office) and payments in by November 8th.

Thanks, and here’s to a great season! Alex Bobsein
