The Mississippi Department of Archives and History is seeking a candidate to serve as the department’s webmaster. This position is a hybrid of creative design, skilled programmer and web design. Primary functions are to work closely with the Public Information team to develop and manage content updates; maintain web system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; provide analytic reports; troubleshoot server hardware, software, and operating system; make recommendation to the Information Systems Director regarding design issues, upgrades and security relating to the Internet and Intranet presence. Incumbent will also work as part of a team to resolve day to day Help Desk issues regarding hardware/software problems and managing user accounts.
The ideal candidate will have skills, ability and/or experience working in the following areas:
- The ideal candidate must have knowledge of LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Python/Perl)
- Maintain all websites delegated by the agency
- Hands on experience administering Active Directory
- Ensure that all Internet standards are met
- Experience in protecting online content which includes an understanding of access permissions for editing and publishing online content with prior approval
- Develop new concepts to expand services and further web design offerings
- Implement updates, upgrades, and patches in a timely manner to limit loss of service
- Set up a development and production web server environments with a process for testing and deploying changes to the live site
- Develop and document style guidelines for web site contentin coordination with Public Information
- Establish and test disaster recovery policies and procedures; complete back-ups; maintain documentation
- Experience maintaining and updating websites using CMS models such as Drupal and Wordpress
- Deep expertise and hands on experience with Web Applications and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, PHP and API’s
- Experience with social media management and content creation
- Design skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and/or Dreamweaver) or Experience with Adobe Creative Suite
- Ability to work and coordinate work across multiple technical and creative teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required as well as strong presentation skills
- Hands-on experience with network diagnostics, network analytics tools
- Aggressive problem diagnosis and creative problem solving skills
- Strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks within the constraints of timelines
- Ability to manage large projects
- Be able to work independently or on a team
- Be able to meet deadlines and communicate promptly if unforeseen issues arise that impact project deadlines
Education and experience must meet one of the following criteria:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in information science, computer science or a related field and two (2) years of directly related experience
- Associate's degree in information science, computer science or a related field and four (4) years of directly related experience
- Graduation from a standard four-year high school or equivalent (GED) and six (6) years of directly related experience
- Related education and directly related experience may be substituted on an equal basis.
