TROOP 166 TRIP BULLETIN JIM CREEK 11/12/16-11/13/16

DESTINATION: Jim Creek Community Recreation Area is nestled in the foothills of the North Cascades. Jim Creek serves as a Naval Radio Station and regional outdoor recreation facility for active duty, reservists, retired military, DoD civilians and sponsored guests. Located just outside of Arlington, WA, about 1-1/2 hours north of Seattle. Jim Creek and its 5,000 plus acres offers a wide variety of outdoor recreational opportunities, including camping, hiking, fishing, boating, biking, tower/rock wall, team building programs and interpretive center.

DEPART: Meet at Wedgwood Presbyterian Church (WPC) parking lot at 8 AM Saturday, November 12th for car load-up and equipment drop off. Troop will depart at 8:30 AM. Rosters, maps, and driving instructions will be provided.

PROGRAM: This is a 1-night car camping trip. We will be tent camping in a group site with a covered shelter and picnic tables. The shelter also has electricity and water. The site includes a large gas grill and a large fire pit. Wood is available for purchase, but we can bring our own wood. We’ll work on Scout advancement and have time for games, and an evening camp fire.

EQUIPMENT: Patrols to take sufficient tents. Be prepared for rain and cold weather. Dress in layers you can shed. Wear comfortable shoes for the campground and appropriate hiking shoes/boots for day hiking. We will be sleeping in tents. Bring a sleeping bag, pad, cooking supplies, 10 essentials and personal gear. There is running water, restrooms and showers. We’ll have an outdoor fire, so bring firewood, matches and fire starters. Patrols may bring a basketball and soccer ball for downtime. There is other recreational equipment available for rent at store on Saturday (e.g., Frisbee golf).

FOOD: The patrols are responsible for preparing dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. Each patrol will invite an adult or two to join them. Scouts are to bring a sack lunch and snacks for Saturday. Depending on Sunday’s departure time, scouts should bring a lunch or snack for Sunday. Driver will probably stop for lunch on the return drive home, so Scouts should bring money for their Sunday lunch.

FEE: $25.00 CASH covers transportation and campsite costs. Provide an additional $8.00 CASH to your patrol grub master for food (adults, too). Scholarships are available. Contact Bill Montgomery at least 1 week prior to the outing.

Pick-Up: Scouts and adult Drivers will depart on Sunday at approximately 12 or 1 PM. The scouts will phone as soon as they are close to the Church, cars might return between 2:30 and 3:30 PM.

SIGN-UP: Signed permission slips and $25.00 CASH/CHECK need to be turned in by Monday, November 7th. For all that will be attending that are 18 years and older, including all drivers please let Doug or Russ know so we can get you the form to fill out. We need to know what drives will drive up front as soon as possible. See “Special Note”

SPECIAL NOTE:

All adults must complete a security questionnaire for submission to Everett Naval Station one (1) week prior to our arrival.

All drivers must present a valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration and proof of vehicle insurance for access to Jim Creek. No exceptions.

I hereby give permission for any and all medical attention necessary to be administered to my child in the event of an accident, injury, sickness, etc., under the direction of the adults listed on this form or the adult leaders listed on the trip bulletin until such time as I may be contacted. This release is effective for the time during which my child is participating in a Troop 166 Boy Scout outing, including traveling to or from activities.
