Registration Information To Parents of Kindergarten Age Children
The SAFETY TOWN program will again be offered this summer for children who will be enrolled in Kindergarten for the Fall of 2018. SAFETY TOWN is a 20-hour course where children learn safety procedures through involvement in both classroom and outdoor instruction. The specific topics covered are: pedestrians, fires, strangers, pets and animals, traffic signs and signals, poisons, buses, and general play at school and at home. The program is taught by professional teachers. Visits by Fargo Police and Fire Department officers will provide your children with an enjoyable learning experience.
You can sign your child up for any one of six, two week session starting June 4 and ending June 29, 2018(See Schedule). All sessions will be held at Lewis & Clark Elementary, 1729-16th Street South, Fargo, ND.
There is a non-refundable registration fee of $55.00 per child. Please make checks payable to: FARGO SAFETY TOWN. Please choose your session carefully, as rescheduling is not always possible. Plan ahead and register early, as sessions fill up quickly. A confirmation notice will be sent indicating the session your child will be enrolled the first week in May. IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
If you are anticipating forming a car pool or have some other reason why your child and certain other children should be enrolled in the same session, please enclose all of the applications in one envelope along with a note listing the names of the group that you want together. This will help to prevent problems in registration and insure that all of your group is signed up for the same session and time.
ALL AREA CHILDREN ARE WELCOME:
Registration forms are available at all Fargo, West Fargo and Moorhead Schools during kindergarten registration and in the school offices after that date. Any child that is enrolled in kindergarten for the coming fall is more than welcome in our program. So pass the word to neighbors, relatives, and friends. They are welcome!
NOTE: It is very important that we limit the enrollment to incoming kindergarten children. The lessons are specifically developed for these children and they are the ones that will benefit the most from them. As sessions tend to fill up quickly, enrolling a child that is too young or too old will only deprive a target child of valuable safety lessons. Thank you for your cooperation!
INVOLVEMENT OF LOCAL POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS:
Fargo Fire and Police Departments have a genuine commitment to the safety of our children.
The Fargo Police Department provides valuable instruction for the Safety Town program. Every summer police officers bring squad cars and motorcycles to Safety Town to teach the children many safety lessons. Some important topics they cover are: dialing 911, crossing streets, the meaning of many traffic signs and strangers. They also emphasize that police officers are friends - someone to turn to for help.
The Fargo Fire Department will bring a fire truck out to our location and explain the various equipment and tools located on the truck to your child. They will also dress in their fire fighting gear to show your child what a firefighter will look like when entering a burning house or building.
The Fargo Optimist Club, along with the Safety Town staff, wish to express their appreciation to both the Fargo Police Department and the Fargo Fire Department for their cooperation and contribution to the program. Officers from both departments make a big impression on the children.

The Safety Town Program will be conducted Monday through Friday at Lewis & Clark Elementary, 1729 – 16th Street South, Fargo. You have a choice of six sessions listed in the preceding schedule. Please select your first two choices and number them in order of preference. REMEMBER GROUP REGISTRATIONS SHOULD BE SENT IN ONE ENVELOPE. A confirmation notice will be sent indicating the session your child will be enrolled the first week in May.

We suggest that you accompany your child on the first day for 10 minutes as we would like you to meet our teachers, see our classroom, view the playground and hear a few announcements. You donot need to stay for the entire two hours. No snacks are served during your child’s two hour session. Sunscreen, lotions, etc., should be applied at home. Tennis shoes should be worn as we are out on the playground on a daily basis.
On the registration form, please indicate any health conditions your child has that the instructors should know about, such as allergies.
