Instructions/Sample
Creating a vocab flashcard:
Step 1: Use ONE 3X5 index card for each vocabulary word
Step 2: Punch one hole in the upper left corner of each card (not too close to the edge or it will rip)
Step 3: Complete both sides of the flash cards as shown below
Step 4: Attach cards to metal ring and hook it into your binder

Unit 1: Big Question

On the front side:
Step 1: In the top right corner of the card, write the number of the flashcard (not the number of the unit).
Step 2: Write the Unit Number and the section in the book that the vocabulary word came from (either write: “Big Question” or the name of the story/poem in the upper/middle part of the card (as shown above).
Step 3: Write the vocabulary word directly beneath the unit number.
Step 4: Write your first initial and last name on the bottom right corner of the card.
Extremely important: All twenty vocabulary flashcards must have the number of the card, the number of the Unit, and your first initial and last name on EVERY SINGLE CARD or you will not receive full credit for the assignment!

*Mnemonic device – write at least two synonyms (similar words) that will help you remember the definition or make a cross word puzzle with the synonyms to help you memorize the vocab word. Do not write the actual vocab word in your mnemonic device as it will defeat the purpose of helping you memorize the word!
On the back side:
Step 1: Write the part of speech and a period in parenthesis on the top left corner of the card.
Step 2: Next to the part of speech, copy all of the definition from your book (as shown above).
Step 3: Write a mnemonic device as explained above.
Extremely important: All twenty vocabulary flashcards must have the part of speech in parenthesis, all complete definitions from your book, and a mnemonic device on EVERY SINGLE CARD or you will not receive full credit for the assignment!
