ToreprocessintheCALyouwillneedtotransferthedatasetand the method fromtheinstrumentcomputertoyourprogramfolderonOrca. CopyfromtheElanDatafolder: C:/ElanData/Dataset/[yourfolder], Methods/[your method]. Ifyouneedany other files or filesthatwerenotusedintheoriginalrun,copythosealso. ThefollowinginstructionscanbefollowedontheinstrumentcomputerorfromthevirtualElansoftwareintheCAL.

OpeningtheElanSoftwarethrough a VirtualMachine

  1. ClicktheStartbuttononthedesktop.
  2. ClickonAllApps,scroll down and click onICPMS_ELAN_and_GCMSD_Chem. This will open thevirtualmachineyouwillusetoaccesstheElanSoftware. Itwilltakeamomenttostartup
  3. If the system asks if the software has been moved or copied selectCopied
  4. Click the Player button with the drop down arrow, select Manage
  5. Select Virtual Machine Settings, Click the Options tab, highlight Shared Folders
  6. On the right select the dot next to Always enabled
  7. Make sure theMap as a network drive in Windows guests box is checked, click OK
  8. In the "Folders" panel below, click Add & then Next
  9. Browse for and highlight the folder containing your methods file & dataset. Click OK, Next
  10. Ensure that the "Enable this share" box is checked, leave the "Read-only" box unchecked.
  11. Click Finish, then OK to return to the Virtual Machine
  12. Double check that the folder got mapped by checking under My computerin the virtual machine
  13. The drive should be labeled as “Shared Folders on ‘vmware_host’”
  14. If not in full screen mode, click the “Enter Full Screen Mode” button
  15. ClicktheStartbuttononyourvirtualdesktop, selectPrograms,ELANDRC-e,clickontheELANsoftwareicon

ReprocessingtoReproduceorAlterCalibrationCurvesand/orView(onmonitor)orPrintSingleDataFilesfromaDataset

  1. Openalloftheappropriatefiles(Dataset, Report Template, and Methods) by clicking on the green R, click Load, and select the pathway(typically your program folder on Orca in Shared Folders on ‘vmware-host’). *****Loading your dataset may take a couple of minutes****
  2. Inmostcases,beforereprocessing, clickontheMethodbutton
  3. ClickontheReporttab,andmakesurethattheSendtoPrinterboxisnotchecked
  4. ClickontheDatasetbutton
  5. Toreprocesswithalloftheoriginalconditions,clickontheUseOriginalConditionsbox. Do not check this box if you changed or need to change something in your method or dataset
  6. TomodifyStandardOrder,IDorReadTypeadjustthe specific parameterwithinthedataset under the appropriate column
  7. If not using original conditions, youmayalsochoosetosavethereprocessedresultsinanewfilebycheckingtheSaveReprocessedDatabox. Save this to the program folder, not the virtual machine
  8. Highlightthe row numbers for thestandards/blanks/sample(s)thatyouwantreprocessed,andclickReprocess. This must be done before any individual samples can be viewed or printed
  9. To viewthecalibrationcurve(s)clicktheCalibViewbutton
  10. Toviewareportforasinglestandard/blank/sample: (You must first reprocess your standard curve per step 8.d)
  11. Highlightthe row numbers for thestandards/blanks/sample(s)thatyouwantprinted,andclickReprocess
  12. Toprintoutindividualdatafiles: (Notrecommended:seeexportoptions)
  13. Click on the Method button,selecttheReporttabandchecktheSendtoPrinterbox
  14. ClickontheDatasetbutton
  15. Uncheck the UseOriginalConditionsbox
  16. Highlightthe row numbers for thestandards/blanks/sample(s)thatyouwantprinted,andclickReprocess
  17. Donotsavethemethodwiththeprinterboxchecked
  18. You will be presented with a save file prompt for an .xps file for each sample. Open the drop-down menu labeled "Save in:" and select "Shared Folders on 'vmware-host'" & navigate to your program folder. Name the file & click OK. Do this for each sample.
  19. You can then print the .xps file(s) you want to print from the host (not the Virtual) machine.

ReprocessingtoExportCompleteResultsforEachSampleintoExcel(Bestfordataevaluation)

  1.   6. UndertheReportOptionTemplateclickonBrowseselectatemplate(Defaults: QuantSummary.roporTotalQuantSummary.rop).
  7. Under Report Filename clickonBrowse
  8. Open the drop-down menu next toLook in: to selectafilepathway
  9. This should be located in your program folder,not in the virtual machine
  10. Enterafilenamefortheexporteddata, click Open
  11. Check IncludeTitles,UseDelimiter,UseSeparator,andAppend
  12. ClickontheDatasetbutton,donotclickUseOriginalConditionsbox.
  13. To create a report, highlighttherow numbers for the standards/blanks/andsamplestobeincludedand clickReprocess
  14. Donotsavethemethod

ReprocessingtoExportaSummaryReportintoExcel(NOTE: ThiswillnotworkwithTotalQuantdata)

  1.   4. ClickontheDatasetbutton, do not click Use Original Conditions box.
  5. ClickontheSummaryReportbutton
  6. Todisplayallresults,selectthesummarybyAnalyteorSamplebox(SummarybyAnalyteisveryusefulforplottingvariationsininternalstandardresponse)
  7. Todisplayfinalconcentrationsonly,selectsummarybySample,andchecktheCrossTabbox(Thisprovidesaverycompactfile)
  8. UnderOutputTo,checktheFilebox,uncheckthePrintbox
  9. ClickBrowsetoselectthefilenameandfilepathwayfortheexporteddata.
  10. This should be located in your program folder, not in the virtual machine.
  11. PresstheOKbutton
  12. To create the summary report, highlighttherownumbersfor the standards, blanks,andsamplestobeincluded, click theReprocessbutton
  13. Donotsavethemethod

OpeningCompleteorSummaryReportFilesinExcel(Outside of the Virtual Machine)

  1. OpenExcel,clickonFile,Open,selectyourfolderordrive
  2. To the right of the file name box, selectAllFiles from the drop-down menu,selectthefiletobeimportedandthenclickOpen
  3. Atextimportwizardwillappear.SelectthedotnexttoDelimited,clickNext
  4. UnderDelimiters,selectbothTabandComma,clickNext
  5. UnderColumnDataFormatselectGeneral,clickFinish
  6. In excel, adjust final formatting as desired
