Gender disparity
- General appreciation on man-woman disparity in Romania
In my country gender equality is not really a problem, but it may be considered as a problem in low social classes or traditional rural communities where the strong belief that man is the real boss is still present.
In this respect, I saw on TV different campaigns which provide woman's liberation from domestic violence. Average do not have a medium education and they still think that a woman is made only for cooking, looking after children and that she has to stay all day long in the house ,otherwise things will get worse. They think that the moment they go home after work or to the bar having more than a drinkwith a lot of friends, food has to be cooked and all the house be clean. In case their spouse fails to do these on time, they yell or even worse beat them; it doesn't matter if this is in front of the children or not.
And to make things worse, the economic crisis where many parents have lost their jobs or whose salaries were cut off with 25 % each put more pressure on them.
This is the reason why many children from my country grow up so bad and become murders or criminals of some kind. In fact, they live a drama that will mark their whole life so that they think this is the correct way to live the life.However, there are still many children who learn from this dramas and they try doexactly the opposite in their life.
Returning to TV campaigns, there is oneon a channel named Acasa TV ( Home TV) called "Pain is not Love", which tries to reduce the number of this events. Here, many women go and speak about their life next to a violent husband and what happens if a woman is being beaten and she doesn't say anything. They are trying to make them speak about their drama, so that the authorities can do something to help them. The campaign is running right at this moment and I hope they will succeed in reducing the number of domestic violence. I think this is a very good campaign and people should make more and more actions like this one.
Another problem in my country is the "women drivers" issue. Many men think that women drivers are really a disaster, but I think this is not fair to generalize, on the contrary they are supposed to be more careful. It is true that some of them drive badly or too slowly to the men’s taste, but that is not a reason to doom them.
Beside these, I consider that in my country females are generally treated equally by the men. Whether it is in schools, high schools, universities or workplaces, this is not a serious problem. All institutes are mixed and don't make a real difference between genders, perhaps with a little salary discrimination or those who come from a poor background or are gypsies who are difficult to educate.
- Gender disparity in education
But there are TV campaigns run by different tv channels such as PRO TV or ANTENA 3 which try to change both the situation of poor or illiterate students or people on the one hand or shows to sympathize with the teachers who are poorly paid. Yes, this is an example of disparity.
In our school, there are about 1486 pupils(from primary , high school . vocational and evening classes) with a total of 108 teachers.
The situation at the national level is not encouraging as the number of the children has dropped due to economical issues. See the article on
The number of teachers has recorded the same decreasing trend due to reductuion in the number of posts. from page 5 up.
- Conclusions. On the whole:
- There are mixed classes, no visible gender discriminations in education;
- Some gender discrimination in schools due to different social status or financial resources;
- women are independent and free to choose to work or to stay at home.There are no or little religious restrictions either, which is a positive thing among the negative ones. Because we live in the third millennium so people think more wisely. Women are treated as they really should: with admiration and respect for their everyday sacrifices.
