AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR FRANCIE EVANS FOR HER EXCEPTIONAL POISE, TALENT, BEAUTY, AND CONCERN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND TO CONGRATULATE HER ON BEING NAMED MISS SOUTH CAROLINA UNITED STATES EARTH FOR 2018.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Francie Evans was named Miss South Carolina Earth 2018; and

Whereas, the Miss Earth Pageant provides young women the opportunity to serve as ambassadors in their communities to raise awareness for climate change, water conservation, recycling, and other environmental issues; and

Whereas, a 2016 graduate of St. James High School in Murrells Inlet, twentyyearold Francie Evans is a sophomore at the University of South Carolina who resides in Surfside Beach; and

Whereas, she will be competing in the nation’s capital for the privilege of representing the United States at the International EarthPageant in the fall of 2018; and

Whereas, having grown up in Surfside Beach, Ms. Evans wants to provide an awareness of trash spoiling the state’s rivers, streams, and coastal waters and help to end the glut of plastic pollution; and

Whereas,studies have shown that by the year 2050, more plastic will fill the earth’s oceans than fish, so Ms. Evans has been working with local organizations to educate their members on the “three Rs”: reduce, recycle, reuse; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates the outstanding contributions that Francie Evans is making as she represents the Palmetto State in her role as Miss South Carolina Earth 2018, and the members look to hear of her ongoing accomplishments in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

Thatthe members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Francie Evans for her exceptional poise, talent, beauty, and concern for the environment and congratulate her on being named Miss South Carolina United States Earth for 2018.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented toFrancie Evans.
