Operations Manager
Definition / Monitors transport and warehouse activities. Supports the Warehouse and Transport Managers to ensurethat all resources are available as needed and all operations are carried out efficiently and effectively. Communicates budgets, KPI’s and SLA’s and monitors and controls costs. Assists HR with recruitment and disciplinary procedures. Monitors and reviews legislation related to Health and Safety, transport and the environment and ensures all site activities operate within their parameters.Key Activities / Resource Management HR Processes

What should an Operations Managerbe doing? (Key Activities)
Resource Management (Transport and Warehouse)
- Support the Transport and Warehouse Manager in controlling the day to day operations of the warehouse and the transport function
- Ensures that sufficient resource coverage is available at all times and that future resourcing requirements are planned in advance e.g. vehicles MOT’s coverage, staff coverage for annual leave etc
- Identifies where changes and improvements can be made to processes and ensures that they are
implemented
- Ensures that all paperwork related to deliveries, health and safety etc is signed off and sent to appropriate person
- Ensures that open communication channels are established and maintained with Managers, staff, customers and service providers
- Leads, monitors and motivates staff
Business and Financial Duties
- Helps set strategy and objectives for the warehouse
- Communicates budgets, KPI’sand SLA’s and ensures they are implemented and adhered to
- Monitors and controls operational costs
- Generates daily/weekly/monthly reports relating to costs, error rates etc
- Communicates ideas and asks others for suggestions on warehouse operations and systems e.g. where improvements can be made etc
- Builds relationships with suppliers at a local level
HR Processes
- Conducts investigations and/or carries out disciplinarians as part of the disciplinary process
- Identifies staff training needs and ensures that it is implementedand records are kept up to date
- Works with HR to recruit personnel
- Conducts regular team meetings/briefings with supervisors
Health, Safety, Transport and Environment
- Identifies and reviews legal criteria that relates to Health and Safety, Environmental and Transport
Legislation e.g. Road Traffic Acts, ISO etc
- Ensures that all operations are carried out in adherence to legislative requirements and company
policies and procedures e.g.transport operations observe tachograph requirements etc.
- Carries out Health and Safety risk assessments and logs results
- Responsible for Branch Maintenance and Security
What should an Operations Manager be equipped with? (Technical and Experience)
Driving Qualification: Category B Licence or above required
Literacy and Numeracy: Able to read and write, perform basic arithmetic
I.T Skills: Has an excellent level of computer and keyboard skills. Able to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
People Management, Transport and or/Warehouse Experience:Experience managing a team. Exposure to a warehouse/distribution and / or transport environment
Health, Safety, Environmental and Transport Legislation: Knowledge of health and safety and environmental legislation. Keeps up to date with all legislation related to the transport of goods i.e. Road traffic acts, tachograph regulations etc.
Commercial Awareness: Exposure to fast-paced commercial environment, able to understand customer requirements and impact of actions on profit
Budgetary Experience – Exposure to interpreting and implementing budgets
Advanced Systems and Product Knowledge: Specific product knowledge of brand, Encon systems (e.g. M4), and company policies desirable
CPC – Certificate of Professional Competence desirable
