Food Chains Assignment

1. On a clean, white sheet of paper draw your food chain starting with the producers

near the bottom of the page. Be certain that all of your organisms are in the

correct order before you start to draw. Be neat; use a ruler!

Identify and/or label:

a) each trophic level

b) producer, primary consumers, secondary

consumers, tertiary consumers, top carnivore

c) herbivores, carnivores

2. Identify the organism that occupies the third trophic level. Describe its habitat and

niche.

3. Name at least one scavenger and one decomposer who would feed on the top

carnivore in your food chain.

4. Look carefully at the information provided with the names of the organisms in

your food chain. Decide whether you have the necessary information to create a

pyramid of numbers, a pyramid of energy or a pyramid of biomass.

a) Draw a scale diagram that uses rectangular boxes to represent trophic levels in your food chain.

b) At each trophic level, write the organism’s name and the relevant measurement.
