7th and 8th Grade Tigers Softball
Congratulations, and welcome to the 2017 7th and 8th grade Tigers softball team! It should be an exciting season of memories both on and off the field. I want to tell you a little bit about myself. I have been around the game of softball/baseball since I was a baby in a car seat; my dad was the head coach for the Perry Pirates for 35 years. So basically I have been playing the game since I could hold my head up. I have been coaching the game of softball since I was 18 years old; however, I will not tell you my age, but it’s been 15 years! I believe that I can teach your daughter a lot of useful tools in order to help them grow both as a person and athlete. I look forward to working with everyone this year!
Coach Brynn Greene
Team rules you will be expected to uphold throughout the season:
- Since we are playing a team sport, we will wear uniforms both at practice and on game days. Each day the girls will decide on the color shirt they will wear to practice, plus a pair of sweat pants to practice. The sweat pants do not have to be the same color, but no yoga pants are permitted.
- We are a team and should work as a team. Please keep all conflicts off of the softball field. If there are any conflicts, it will be discussed between the coach and players of interest.
- If as a player you have questions or concerns and you wish to discuss them with me, ask to talk to me after practice or 24 hours after a game. At no time will I talk to a parent about playing time. It is up to your daughter’s to discuss playing time with me. If that does not suffice, then we will arrange a meeting to meet with the Athletic Director, coach, player, and parents.
- Make good choices during the school day! Playing time will be affected if I receive communication from teachers that behavior/academics become a problem during the season. Playing sports is a privilege, not a right.
1st Offense: Verbal Discussion/Sit ½ game
2nd Offense: Sit a full game
3rd Offense: Removal from team
- All players must ride the bus to/from away games unless a note written by the parent is signed by an administrator PRIOR to the game and turned into the coach. This note should be turned into the coach prior to the start of the game. If you are taking your child, you must sign the sign-out sheet and the player must leave with you from the field.
- Remember you are a student/athlete….STUDENT comes first. If you need extra time to do work or talk to your teachers at the end of the day, please do so; however, if you are late to practice, you will need to get a note from them. You also need to ensure that you value your time on the bus, before and after games to get your school work complete. At no time during the season can you use softball as an excuse because your work was not complete.
- If you are late to practice without a written excuse:
● First offense- Warning
● Second offense- Sit half of the next game.
● Third offense- Sit the next game.
● Fourth offense - Sit down with the coach and your parents.
- If you miss a practice without a written excuse:
● First Offense: Sit half of the next game.
● Second offense: Sit the next game.
● Third Offense: Removal from the team.
Communication is a must, if you have another obligation and can’t be at practice, let me know ahead of time. Stop in my room, send me an email, or leave me a voicemail if anything arises.
*If you miss the practice the day before a game you will sit half of the next game, no exceptions.
- If you miss a game, you will not be able to start the next game. No exceptions.
- For instances when your ride is late after practice or a game, refer to the school wide policy.
- A lack of sportsmanship will not be tolerated. Whether it is at practice or at a game, your teammates, other teams, and umpires will be treated with respect at all times.
● First Offense: Verbal Warning
● Second offense: Sit half a game, plus a discussion with parents.
● Third Offense: Sit a whole game, plus a discussion with parents..
● Fourth Offense: Removal from the team. .
- You are absolutely NOT allowed to practice/scrimmage/play with your rec league or travel league teams until our school season is OVER. Pitchers may go to their pitching coach, but it can only be a one on one meeting, you cannot practice with your team. This a rule set forth by the OHSAA and if you choose to violate it, you will become ineligible to play on the school team.
- Middle school softball is designed to develop skills to prepare for the future and for the enjoyment of playing softball as a team. My goal as a coach is to make the season as enjoyable as possible while making sure each player is constantly learning and improving as we grow as a
team. All of the athletes will play in a game, unless there is an offense that the coach is abiding by.
