Post:Site Supervisor

Salary:APT&C Grade3,Living Wage (£14,759) to Point 17 (£15,941)

Hours:Variable hours contract between 20 hpw and 37 hpw, full year

Starting hours, 24 per week. (£9,573.41 on Living Wage)

Responsible to: Site Manager

Job purpose

Under the line management of the Site Manager, to assist in managing and keeping in good repair the site, grounds and resources of the school and to be responsible for the security of the site, grounds and school buildings in line with school development plans, community programmes and commercial requirements.

General responsibilities - all school staff are expected to:

work towards and support the school vision and objectives as outlined in the School Development Plan;

maintain high professional standards of attendance, punctuality, appearance and conduct;

uphold and enhance the reputation of the school by ensuring positive, courteous relationships with students, parents, colleagues and stakeholders at all times;

work within the school’s health and safety policy to ensure a safe working environment for self, other staff, students and visitors;

fully participate in the school’s appraisal scheme where appropriate;

engage actively in continuous professional development for self and colleagues and undertake training as required;

undertake other reasonable duties related to the job purpose as required from time to time.

Specific responsibilities (including, but not restricted to, the following:

Security and supervision

The routine and non-routine opening of the school premises and grounds.

To act as a key holder, carrying out security procedures for the buildings and grounds.

Responding to calls outside normal working hours as a result of break-ins, etc, and/or the setting off of the burglar alarms.

Providing access, where possible, to the premises and classrooms in the event of snow or minor flooding or similar emergency situations.

In liaison with the Director B & F – dependent on shift worked - dealing with enquiries from officers and employees of the Local Education Authority, workers and contractors.

Providing access to the school for contractors and advising the Director B&F of their presence.

Monitoring and ensuring the cleanliness of the school premises and furnishings.

Cleaning, caretaking and maintenance

Operating the heating plant so that the required temperatures are maintained in the premises and an adequate supply of hot water is available.

Making arrangements for the carrying out of the routine procedures or inspections on ancillary equipment, e.g. fire alarms/equipment, water checks, checking automatic pumps and areas subject to flooding, and maintenance of batteries.

Drawing the attention of the Site Manager and/or Director of Business and Finance to any repairs or maintenance work required at the premises which is beyond the competence of the site staff.

To arrange to carry out first line repairs and maintenance which are not beyond the competence of the staff concerned:-

  • Plumbing work e.g. repairing a leaking pipe, simple installation work such as plumbing in a new tap, toilet, replacing a washer etc.
  • Redecoration as appropriate
  • Plastering work such as repairing cracked or broken plaster, making good damaged walls, for example following the removal of shelving or similar fittings.
  • Fencing or boundary repairs. e.g. mending broken fence panels or stakes, repairing holes in chain link fences etc.
  • Glazing work, such as replacing smaller windows, re-beading or re-puttying glass panes, internal and external. N.B. specialist contractors would be used for repairs to large windowpanes or double glazed units or windows at high level or glass covered by safety glazing regulations.
  • Minor gardening duties including, but not restricted to, tidying, flower boxes, weeding, etc.

Carry out planned school refurbishment projects under the management of the Director B&F (within the capabilities of the post holder.)

Ensuring that all areas within the confines of the site are free from litter and that all drains and gullies are free flowing and clean.

Ensuring that all caretaking equipment is in a safe and working condition and arranging for repair as appropriate.

Ensure that adequate supplies of cleaning materials and other supplies are available.

Making arrangements for the delivery of stores, materials and other goods and their conveyance to their points of distribution.

Carry out routine procedures or checks on ancillary equipment, e.g. fire alarms/equipment, water checks, checking batteries, automatic pumps and areas subject to flooding.

Carrying out school based procedures in the event of fire, flood, breaking and entering, accident or major damage.

Other duties

Undertaking letting and related duties as appropriate

Preparing the school premises and site for out of school activities and clearing up after these activities.

Undertaking appropriate training

Occasional collection of miscellaneous provisions away from the school premises where reasonable.

Planning own work and, at the request of the Director B&F, organising minor works to be undertaken.

Under the direction of (and, if necessary, in the absence of) the Director B&F, monitoring the progress of projects involving outside contractors in accordance with existing Service Level Agreements.

Carrying out an annual check of site maintenance equipment stock against the inventory.

General

At all times carry out the duties in accordance with school-based policies and Health and Safety procedures, including risk assessments.

Health and Safety

Monitoring and checking of issues related to Health and Safety e.g. Legionella, working at height, machinery and equipment.
