Crewe Male Voice Choir
New Year Newsletter 2016
Happy New Year!
And thank you again for all the hard work during December.
We now have the opportunity for a period of consolidation after a rather frenetic 2016. Time to learn new songs, polish up recently learned songs, develop singing technique and refine performance procedure.
Practices in January and February
Practices will concentrate on the Spring repertoire, including:
Popular songs: three ‘male voice’ songs from My Fair Lady; Anthem from Chess
Traditional male voice songs: What would I do without my Music; American Spiritual medley
Welsh heritage songs: We’ll keep a Welcome; All through the Night
Please bring your copies of What would I do without my Music and the American Spiritual medley. The other pieces in the list are new.
Rehearsal schedule
Monday 11 and 18 January will run as normal. After that we will try out a different pattern, something like
7.30 – 8.15 Section rehearsal to learn new parts
8.15 – 9.30 Full choir
Warm up
Treona will start each session with a warm up and short exercises to help technique.
Singing coach
We hope to arrange for a singing coach to come along on perhaps two evenings to help with technique.
Parts
There is also the opportunity to continue with experimenting with lay-out of the choir to find the best sound.
Now is also a good time for you to assess which singing part is best for your voice, and to move over to a different section if you think it would be more ‘comfortable’.
Also
We will also be preparing for the Concert on 16 April. We are expecting to take part in the Cor Choir in May and the specially composed performance to commemorate the Battle of the Somme in July 2016, but as yet we have no information about the music.
Looking forward to the new session!
Stephen
