  • Meet the author\illustrator Allen Say by watching a video
and view other stories written by Allen Say
  • Discuss genre: historical fiction
  • Use a map to locate the 2 settings in the story: Japan & San Francisco
  • Graphic Organizer for vocabulary words
  • Writing – Describe the grandfather’s problem in the story and explain if he ever found a solution.
  • Identify & discuss story elements (setting, characters, problem, solution, and events)
English:
  • Review irregular nouns
  • Watch Brainpop Jr. – Possessive Nouns and take online quiz

  • Listen to the book trailer to give an example of summarizing the story

  • Writing- Students complete a time line of grandfather’s journey in the correct sequence.
