¡Bienvenidos!
Spanish Class Expectations – Señorita Kwiatek
2014-2015
Dear Students, Parents, and Families,
¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español! My name is Mary Christine Kwiatek and I am a Spanish teacher here at the Diamond Middle School. This is my tenth year of teaching Spanish. I am thrilled to be teaching seventh and eighth grade Spanish this year! My summer was marked with fun travel adventures. I spent two weeks attending the Celas Maya Spanish School in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. I took grammar and conversation classes, lived with a family, and enjoyed several excursions to local cities and towns. I cannot wait to share what I learned in Guatemala.
I look forward to building meaningful, personal relationships with my students this year. Creating a learning environment in which students feel valued, respected, and safe is essential. I encourage risk taking, collaboration, and respect in my classroom. I also look forward to working collaboratively with you to support your child in his/her study of Spanish.
In order to help your child succeed in Spanish class this year I have included a list of our expectations for your child as a member of this Spanish class.
Materials – Students will need:
· A Spanish binder, small three ring OR a section of a large binder, in which to keep handouts, worksheets and lined paper. They are expected to bring this binder to class.
· A pencil pouch with pens, pencils, highlighters and dry erase markers (optional).
· Homework agenda in which to record each night’s and long-term assignments.
· On-line textbook – Exprésate Level 1 - http://my.hrw.com (username/password)
Textbooks will be available to borrow from the library for any student who wants or needs to take it home.
Homework – Homework will be given as needed and will be reviewed in class and/or handed in. Becoming proficient in a language requires practice. Not all homework assignments will be written. Your child may be asked to review or practice material that was learned in class. Homework and long-term assignments will be posted on SchoolWires.
Participation – Good conduct and regular participation is expected in class everyday. In class students are expected to follow school and classroom rules, respect others and treat school property with respect.
Evaluations – Students’ grades are based on a total point scale. Re-takes are available on all quizzes, within one week of the original quiz date. Students should seek extra help when needed. Both in-class and at-home projects will be assigned throughout the year. I will always be available for extra help when arranged ahead of time! Please feel free to email me at or call me at 781-861-2460 ext. 1700 should you have any questions or concerns.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything, feel free to contact me. I hope to see you at Back to School Night on Thursday, October 1st. I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
Sincerely,
Mary Christine Kwiatek
