Job Title:Director of Development

Reports to: The Principal

Our Development organization comprises a set of enthusiastic departments that drive strategic partnerships and new initiatives through areas as diverse as Admissions, Alumni Relations, Marketing and Communications.

The Director of Development is a key management role. The role envisages an incumbent who has the ability to act as a Brand Evangelist for Woodstock School’s Alumni Relations, Fundraising and Marketing initiatives, and foster practices to create a community of supporters and transform them into voluntary advocates for the school. The Director would work with the Principal, Board of Directors, Director of Alumni Affairs, and Foundation bodies associated with the school to set a vision for a successful and growing fundraising effort. He/She is involved with strategic planning in order to represent the institution to major supporters, and to build and oversee a fundraising plan with appropriate resources to meet the school’s goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning and Administration

  • Develops and coordinates the strategic fundraising plans for the Development Office in consultation with the Principal and Director of Alumni Affairs
  • Ensures that policies are developed and in place to govern the operations of the Development Office
  • Works with the Principal and the specific committees of the Board to develop strategies to identify, initiate and meet the school’s funding goals
  • Assumes responsibility for all reports on institutional fundraising to the Board and other agencies
  • Develops an Annual Fundraising Budget for the Development Office in coordination with the Director of Alumni Affairs
  • Meets regularly with the Principal, COO and Director of Alumni Affairs to set and achieve the institution’s development goals and to assure smooth functioning of all areas of Annual Giving, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Prospect Research.
  • Keeps informed of institutional and departmental priorities, school programs, personalities and special events
  • Travels extensively, within and outside India to identify and cultivate relationships with potential and existing donors, including parents, alumni, staff and Friends of Woodstock School Foundation
  • Plans for and directs an institution wide program of accountability, reporting and stewardship to institutional donors and supporters
  • Identifies, recruits and motivates leadership volunteers.

Fundraising

  • Designs, implements and manages all fundraising activities including the annual fund, endowment and capital campaigns, major donor and planned giving programs, special projects, and other school-related solicitations
  • Solicits or directs the solicitation of identified prospects for major and planned gifts, including creation or review of proposals, legal instruments, communications, acknowledgments and recognition.
  • Develops and implements parent, faculty/staff, alumni and community based fundraising programs within the Annual Fund Drive
  • Manages all strategies and activities for donor cultivation, solicitation, relations and accountability
  • Solicits or directs the solicitation of identified prospects for major and planned gifts, including creation or review of proposals, legal instruments, communications and acknowledgements
  • Maintains contact with foundations and corporations and oversees the development of grant proposals for them in keeping with the school’s funding needs

Marketing & Communications

  • Works with the Principal to coordinate institutional strategic planning as required
  • Plans and directs a comprehensive, coordinated and high-quality communications plan to communicate the mission and value of Woodstock to all audiences, including staff, parents, the government, the broader Indian community, alumni and other supporters
  • Plans and directs a public relations plan to support staff and student recruitment and fundraising efforts, working with admissions and HR
  • Coordinates visits by press and special guests, including preparation of materials and organizing programs (such as TV crews, reporters, diplomats, and government officials)
  • Builds relationships with media for advertisements, articles, and other forms of coverage
  • Manages “branding” and identification used for promoting the school
  • Participate in Planning and Strategic Meetings for School and/or Fundraising Events

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in a relevant discipline (Marketing, Communications, Development etc)
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in Development in a senior management role
  • Experience and proven success in leading, building and maintaining a Development Program, preferably in an educational institute

Preferred qualifications:

  • Proven project management, relationship management and leadership skills
  • Outstanding fundraising, event management and public speaking skills
  • A thorough understanding of the best practices in the field of Development, Marketing & Communications and the ability to apply those in context of a culturally diverse environment
  • Storytelling ability and passion for brand marketing to showcase the best of Woodstock School and 2020 vision
  • Knowledge of fundraising and contract management systems like Raiser’s Edge or Donor Perfect
  • Grant development and proposal writing experience
  • Experience writing and managing development materials for print, social media and websites
  • Experience creating and implementing development plans and budgets
