Written Question (Rule 117)
Priority Written Question (Rule 117 (4))
AUTHOR(S): / Klaus-Heiner Lehne, on behalf of the Committee on Legal Affairs
SUBJECT:
(please specify) / The Hague Conference - Ratification of Conventions
TEXT:
In view of its previous statements promoting the work of the Hague Conference, the Commission is asked what measures it has taken to date and what further actions are envisaged in order to encourage Member States to ratify the pre-2000 Hague Conventions.
What is the Commission doing to encourage non-member countries to accede to the Hague Conventions, given that this is in the interest of EU citizens? Will it be using the resources of the EEAS to this end?
Will EEAS staff be trained and equipped so as to able to assist citizens and central authorities with the practical workings of the Hague Conventions, particularly the child abduction convention, on the ground?
Does the Commission envisage providing supplementary financial support to sustain current and future projects of the Hague Conference, in particular with regard to international surrogacy?
