In this assignment you will be producing a report in which you will answer the following questions in Parts 1, 2, and 3 below.

Part 1: IUCN

Watch the following video:

Part 2: Endangered Species Act (ESA)

For the following questions, use the following pdf:

  1. What is the legal definition of a Threatened Species under the ESA?
  2. What are the criteria that qualify a species for protection under the Endangered Species Act?
  3. Name the two agencies involved in listing a species as endangered
  4. List the steps that must be followed for a species to be listed under the Endangered Species Act?
  5. How long does it take to list a species as endangered?
  6. Describe the TWO main ways does the Endangered Species Act protects listed species?

Use the USFWS site to find the following:

  1. Name 1 endangered and 1 threatened species found in Los Angeles County and explain the reason each is endangered or threatened.

Part 3: Examples(You can use the Red List Website )

Steps:

  1. Go to ICUN website
  2. Select the Critically Endangered Tab
  3. In the red selection box on the left middle select “Threats” and select one of the following types of threats
  4. Habitat Destruction
  5. Invasive Species
  6. Pollution
  7. Overharvesting
  1. Find an endangered or threatened species that is due to physical habitat degradation or fragmentation.
  2. Describe in detail the situation that makes it threatened or endangered.
  3. Find an endangered or threatened species that is due to an invasive species.
  4. Describe in detail the situation that makes it threatened or endangered.
  5. Find an endangered or threatened species that is due to pollution.
  6. Describe in detail the situation that makes it threatened or endangered.
  7. Find an endangered or threatened species that is due to overharvesting
  8. Describe in detail the situation that makes it threatened or endangered.

Part 4: Solutions
